I'd suggest doing it only if by some miracle Disney World ends up being boring or you find yourself with spare time.  Not because the gathering isn't anything to desire (I've never been), but it's freakin' Disney World!

You would be surprised how much people don't care about Disney World if they are in Florida.  Same with a lot of things people take for granted when it is in their backyard.

I'm moving to Florida in six months.  I'm hoping we find a place that's close enough to easily make a day trip of going, but far enough that it's not a 'whenever we have money for tickets' thing.

North, south, or west Florida?  Also, I'd think you would be popular enough that you could get one of the locals to get you in free.  There are a few in the area that have passes they can use daily if I'm not mistaken.  Just ask one of those folks, no need to waste money if you don't have to.

I'm really not sure yet on the location.  Just that I will be down there.  Location is less dependent on me since I can work anywhere.  But my roommate needs to find work in the field he has a degree in.  He also wants to live practically in Orlando.  What will most likely happen is we'll move to somewhere just outside of Orlando to start because that'll be cheaper than Orlando itself, and then relocate to somewhere more ideal when my guy Klorsis comes to join us.

Might I recommend somewhere between Orlando and Tampa then, along I-4? Living is pretty cheap between the two cities, if you don't mind farming towns like Lakeland, Haines City, or Kissimmee. What's nice is that you're usually close enough to the highway that you can work in either Tampa -or- Orlando, if you don't mind a 20-40 minute commute. Plus it gives you access to two cities to jobsearch in, as well as access to the two cities with the highest local furry population (Like myself in Tampa).

Failing that? Oviedo or Sanford on the NE side of Orlando. cheap rent college town area for UCF

I so wish I could. I'd rather do a Disney weekend but with my recent weekend at FWA I'm tapped out for vacation funds for a while. It would have been nice to meet up & terrorize Disney together.

I haven't completely ruled it out, but honestly I'm more stoked about Disney World, m'self... can't see skipping out on a fancy meal or chance to hang out at the Contemporary unless I knew that they'll be passing out free otters or something.

Has anyone been to one of these events? I've never heard of it, but the site looks pretty cool.

I wish I was, I used to go to them all the time before moving out to Washington. I suggest not missing it, seeing as you only pay about 15 bucks total for the event and there are lots of pluses for going. It's a nice small con with a huge breakfast one of the mornings and wet and wild and stuff. I love it and wish I could go :'<

I really like going to Elliot's Events, but you have to understand that the Spring Gathering is less a convention and more a 3-day furry party. In years past, typically you get free shuttled to places around Orlando, which are rented out for the event, like Arcade Funparks, and even renting out the Wet 'n' Wild waterpark, closing it to the public so the furries can have it to themselves for a few hours. This year we're getting a newer, -FAR- more swanky and upscale hotel to stay in, so I'm not sure if they'll do as much, as simply being at this luxurious new hotel might be considered to be enough.
