Legitttt like Tumblr did it, Twitter is next, facebook is cracking down too so I'm not sure how many avenues there are for viewing/distributing porn anymore

It's less likey Twitter will be screwed over because they have a lot more to lose. They'll be saying goodbye to a huge Japanese audience if they let let the law affect them. Shareholders would be infuriated, so Twitter (and possibly facebook too) would be on our side. Besides, unlike Tumblr they have money and an audience. They can more than happily rally the internet to keep their profits.

No, it allows ISP's to enable access to certain content, applications, and speeds regardless of sources. And being able to block sites or products. Basically discriminating against what can and can't exist on their own network. Like black segregation that was happening in the US. Tumblr and Twitter isn't an ISP.

Now, if you wanted to look at Article 13, which comes from the UK Government, then that is something that would directly reflect to what sites can do. Many places will mirror that because big sites will generally take the harshest rules out there so they don't have to do make individual permissions for different areas and do a blanket rule.

Tumblr is because porn bots that were also tied to child porn were on Tumblr and got caught by the Apple Store and they kicked them off the store. And Tumblr did the ban to be able to get back on the store and be family friendly.

fosta and sesta are very bad but thats not the reason the tumblr thing happened and is not gonna affect us technically still we should fight it

the reason tumblr go to shit was because for a year they have not been doing anything to fight the porn bots and people find out some of those porn bots had real child porn and apple find out and kill tumblr from their site then a month ago tumblr try to do someghting about the porn bots... fail (all the random bans last months was that) and now they gave up and kill everything instead

interesting :) lazy people thinking a big problem gets solved "attacking" the very far place of that… And I think, ironically, if "adult art" is banned, people with the needs will have to find "real situations" to fullfill their desires, instead get all what they need with such art, and is better than hurt real "people" XD but whatever. XD

Part of me is reminded of Prohibition.  Even the official reason behind Prohibition was to make America a more peaceful country to live in where people would be more moral and nice to each other, which is very similar to what this law is officially based on.

On the other hand, though, part of me is much more terrified of this law for one reason: I don't believe that the "official" reason for this law is the actual reason for this law.  The Temperance movement that brought about Prohibition believed not only in what it was doing, but also in what it claimed it was doing. In fact, shortly after Prohibition was passed that same exact movement, horrified by what was actually happening to the country as a result of that law, started pushing to have it repealed because they realized just how huge a blunder Prohibition really was.

This, though... I honestly don't think they really believe their own rhetoric.  I truly don't, mainly because of the way things have been the last few years with doxxing and SWATting and online harassment and so on for the oh, so horrible "crime" of disagreeing with someone.  This is so obviously about one way of thinking becoming dominant and to hell with the consequences that the only parallels I see between Prohibition and this are the stated motivation behind this law and the way it does and will indeed do exactly the opposite of what it is supposedly being passed in order to do.  The statistics even show that in every single region where porn is widely available, sex crimes are greatly reduced, yet they just keep trying to ban everything, and I believe that this is solely because they're interested in being dominant rather than actually caring about what's good for their country.

This terrifies me.  My only income source aside from my art is Social Security.  I draw sexually explicit cub porn, snuff porn, and other such things for money.  I'm already looking at possibly losing Social Security because Trump's administration doesn't think mental illnesses are "valid disabilities" so if my ability to ply the only trade I can actually engage in aside from sitting on my butt and waiting to die is taken away from me, I won't be waiting long at all before that death finally shows up to take me away.

It's also why Craigslist shut down their personals section near the start of the year, and why Patreon is cracking down on NSFW content, despite that being the backbone of their creatorbase.

Regardless, if this is pushed through and isn't soon repealed, then the dystopia of the anime 'Shimoneta' will become a reality.

And it likely WILL get tossed out, as there's a clause in the laws that states sites will be held responsible for allowing sex trafficking or prostitution BEFORE the laws were passed.  This violates the prohibition of ex post facto laws in Article 1, Section 9 of the Constitution.

I certainly hope it gets tossed out. I wish it were possible for the courts to throw it out simply on the grounds that it's a half-baked idea that hurts a lot of people in order to ineffectively solve a problem that doesn't exist.

So when are we getting a “knows how anything works” party... Jesus fuck who do I gotta vote for to not see this shit or article 13 shit or removing net neutrality... is every politician on this planet fucking techtarded
CoconutJoe

There is to my understanding that Tumblr was doing this because they were bought out by Verizon and they intend on cleaning it up and turning it into a family friendly site or some gay shit like that
Espinoth
5 years, 4 months ago
Tumblr was bought out by Verizon last year at the height of the Ashit Pie controversy, Tumblr was VERY vocally supporting net neutrality, Verizon bought them out to silence that.

The reason they're pulling all NSFW is because Apple gave them the boot from the app store due to having porn bot and child porn/pedo community problems on the platform.  So instead of implementing better site moderation to stop that shit... They're taking the lazier, easier route for what they think will be a tidy rise back into good standing, but will instead kill the site in the long run/

A very similar law is just about to be passed in europe called article 13. It would essentially make IB responsible if you posted illegal content in this journal. And because of that community websites would need to be shut down or heavily monitored.

fun fact, twitter already has an algorithm that detects nude pictures and will filter them out even if you dont have your filters on and choose to see adult content, so its a matter of time til it goes farther
dont put much hope into twitter
scaper12123

I'm not as worried about this as I am about article 13 because
a) any porn-focused websites in the US that are threatened by this can move their domains to other countries and continue operating in the US. What is porn may never die
b) bigger social media websites like Twitter or Facebook are in a position where they have a steak in nsfw on their websites, being a fair portion of the profit they can turn. Because they have money, they are also in a position to resist the lat
