Personal pet peeve

That might be the wrong term but let me explain what I mean.

When I posted the latest pic of my girl Cherry and was thinking of a title, "My chubby unicorn" just clicked for some reason. That go me to thinking, I don't like to call people fat. Like I know there are people who are. I also get that fat is not the same as obese but there is just something that really makes me uncomfortable about that word.

Even if someone else says it about themselves like they own it and call themselves a "big fatty"or something similar I can't bring myself to call some one that. It might be cause I used to be a pretty big kid growing up and even into my mid twenties I was pretty heavy set. And needless to say kids are fucking jerks and being big makes you an easy target in more ways then one.

Now don't get me wrong. I've lost a lot of weight but I'm not about to tell people they need to lose weight or anything. Hell, my gallery and faves more or less show I like chubby and curvy girls. I just feel dirty for calling them fat even if they own it.

That's it. Just something I wanted to get off my chest. Thanks for reading.

I think it all depends on context.  It's a lot different to say "Ha! Look at how fat you are, you're such a loser!" and "Look buddy, I know this might sound harsh, but look at how fat you are; you know that if you won't take good care of yourself, it'll give you serious health problems later down the line."

But, at the same time, I do think there's quite a difference between being fat and being merely somewhat chubby, or "curvy"; there's nothing wrong with having a bit more body mass.  But at the same time, we should encourage people who have serious problems with their weight to not give up and to try and live healthier; after all, would you want to see a friend of yours suffer and eventually die to a heart attack in their early 50s?

I feel you. But for me i guess there is just such a negative tone to it its similar to the N word. I get to an extent why some black people use it to describe friends and themselves sometimes, but I just don't feel comfortable using it even if they say its okay to say.

With those that are so polarized with PC comments and those that want to sow chaos or there own agendas. Otherwise people could once watch this video and laugh.

Now there will be those who like it and those that will be offended or rant hate. :(

I'm with you on this. I think it's because "fat" has become kind of a dirty word. At least when I was growing up, it seemed to be mostly used to insult and belittle people, which sounds pretty similar to your own experiences. I usually stick to pudgy or chubby if describing people, or characters, and even then I kind of feel a little guilty for it. But fat is one of those words that, to me, seems to be okay as a label you give to yourself, but not to other people.

That being said, I'm not going to beat other people over the head with this or anything. It's just my own little hang-up and not something I'm actively looking to push on others. I only mention it because I know where you're coming from with this.

You hit the nail on right on the head. Couldn't say it any better myself.

I have no problem with people recognizing objective reality. It's also generally clear when someone is trying to be insulting. I own what I am, and I don't require you to be politically correct.
But, get in my face, and you are on a one way trip to bansville.

For me its not about being PC so to speak. Like if  friend ask me if they are fat and they are I will tell them the truth but not be a dick about it. Unless its a weird situation and they want me to, which has happened some how. But as a general rule of personal comfort, I'd rather not say or call some one fat. The more I'm talking with you fine folks about the subject I really do feel its because growing up kids were jerks and I don't want to be like them even if I'm not trying to be malicious about it.

Well not really. This one is just standing around with penguins and sharing food recipes and tips and sometimes talking about sports. The stupid stuff is a personal choice.
