Thoughts on people fleeing from tumblr to twitter

Everyone goin to twitter actin like the shit that happened to tumblr isn't gonna happen there.

It's not a matter if 'if', it's a matter of 'when'. They have very similar community guidelines and employ the same AI systems to monitor posts. They don't give a damn about free speech and as soon as your fucking gay furry porn blogs start affecting advertisers they're gonna drop your ass so fast. Not only that but twitter is the worst fucking site to host art, and they'll permanently ban you for telling someone to eat a cinder block.

I guess it's ok to post just previews (cropped images) or totally censored drawings with a link to the uncensored version, right?
GreenReaper

So far, I think? If the thumbnail is the cropped version you could even use IB's Twitter-poster to post it.

Probably best to check whether you have to mark your account as sensitive, though. And wo knows, maybe they'll go all FA on links as well.

Yeah this is what I don't understand about this as well. Not seeing why you shouldn't just keep the porn on the porn sites. Much less restriction and risk of them deciding that they don't like what you're doing and nuking everything.

Problem is, said porn sites(I'm assuming you mean sites like FA and IB) also have rules against certain content and Tumblr didn't. Well technically they did but didn't act on them

Maybe its just me but I think its better to just work within the restrictions of sites like these (especially IB since you can just link to an imgur or something no problem when its something not allowed on the site) than to risk just having everything nuked when they decide to enforce their TOS which I've seen them do a few times before this recent thing even started happening.

Also, Twitter's just a terrible site for artwork in general. No real tagging system, no easy way to browse for posts, and yeah, all the points you provided.

It's a bit strange that people aren't posting furry content onto the usual furry sites.
Ah... well.

Wonder where people will flood to when Twitter cracks down.
Probably Mastodon.

My thoughts exactly. Honestly I think social media got way too big and too important to people without the medium deserving it. So people decided going to sites like Twitter and Tumblr, which are really quite mediocre-ly designed for hosting art, was a better idea than posting art on...an art site. Because the snappy social interaction, likes, and sharing were apparently worth that much to people.

I actually hopped onto Mastodon recently, specifically the baraag.net server/instance/whatever it's called. Seems like a useful place to drop certain art I can't anywhere else...since I had SoFurry for that in the past but they sadly were forced to change some rules not too long ago.

I have nothing truly against social media myself, I use Twitter casually. But I'll never get 'invested' to it like a lot of people do. I'd call social media investment more addiction than anything else, and an addiction that really encourages you to get your friends addicted as well.

Consider: Twitter has a far better design so it's easier to shitpost on

In my opinion Twitter is just as bad and toxic of a website as Tumblr.  And functionality wise, Twitter is just way worse.

I agree with your points in general.  Of course they don’t care about free speach, they have no obligation to follow it as a private company.  Sort of a terrible situation, but it might be a bit of time before twitter actually does anything - if it makes you feel better someone probably had to download and label terrabytes of gay furry porn to train their neural networks to detect it.

Also did twitter perma ban you for telling someone to eat a cinderblock?

The main issue is that there aren't any user-friendly, well-looking NSFW Social Medias like Tumblr. Nobody wanna put in the effort to make an eye-catching website because it costs money and oh no, investing in your websites is full on REEEEEEEE
GreenReaper

Costs enough just to serve the pictures! OK, so not everywhere is IB with its ~$10/day budget.

That was my exact thoughts when I saw all the "I'm moving to Twitter" posts. It's like they're magnetized to the worst SNSs or something.

Besides tumblr, its the most social of the social media sites that allows for nsfw content. Sure there's no tagging system but it has a better chance of being spread around with likes (since they made those visible) and retweets, just like tumblr does. Its not that people don't want to use porn sites, its more or less for visibility's sake.

They'll come around. Cinder blocks are pretty good for you once you move past the conjestion

Yeap.

If anyone has good suggestions for art sites, please spread that info. I for one, would love to hear it.
BrokenPupper

Not really? When it comes to smut Twitter doesn't nor ever did care. But Twitter users usually loathe like cub/shota art so it's only you guys that are screwed. If only there was a site popularized by cub porn...

There's also the way Twitter is just even more irritating of a site to try and use for looking at people's art than Tumblr. I don't know why people can't just use an actual gallery. Doesn't have to be IB, or FA, or whatever, just something remotely usable rather than these shitty social media sites
RaccoonRanch

why people uses twitter to post or promote art? it....sucks for that.

all social media sites belong to sjw's and political correctness talibans, maybe it's time to move our business elsewhere, censorship is the trend on internet now,  it wont last, but, for now, it is the rule.

I've been in this fandom since the late 90s, its always hilarious when I see furry "migration trends" and "Drama trends".

Oh look! A new art site came out! *Everyone goes there till they find out it is crap, then come back to FA and inkbunny with the usual "I guess I'll start posting here again because so-and-so "new" place was empty/worse/censored."*

Twatter will be the exact same, i'd say in less than 6 months, since the big social media companies move like a herd with each other.
Jerlinn

Yeah,  just gonna rant, I roll my eyes when someone says their primary posting location is going to be twitter. Disregarding any potential future actions, it's frankly just such an annoying platform for following someone doing any form of content production. It seems to me to be the least sensical place to move to for music / video / art hosting.

LoZeed

In all honesty twitter isn't much of an art website to begin with.
Charem
5 years, 4 months ago
Maybe this is beside the point, but I've never understood artists focusing on Tumblr for solely or mainly hosting their art. I can understand it for sketches or ask blogs or just to have another place to put up art, but a place like Tumblr will never have the form or function of a proper art site with galleries.

I realize that the reason Tumblr was so popular for artists is because...well, social interaction was a lot stronger, and reblogs could get your art around. I would surmise this is why people are moving to Twitter too - which is, once again, kind of a crappy place for a gallery but a great place for retweets and interactions with one's art.

Maybe it's because I'm partly an introvert, but I never considered social media's extra interaction value to be a compelling enough reason to host one's art at such places over nice, organized, art-focused sites. To each their own I suppose...

I just see no issue with, for example, how InkBunny here allows for group conversation via submission comments or journals. I suppose it takes more time to write a comment on an art site, though. 'Course, that (ideally) improves the comment's quality...

I agree to your point too. It's quite likely Twitter will go the same way as Tumblr, especially if everybody moves over there now. I'd say Twitter's bot issues are perhaps even worse than Tumblr's, and since they helped start the whole mess on Tumblr...

Most are going to newgrounds it seems since Twitter really doesn't compare and is at risk as you said.
BrokenPupper
5 years, 4 months ago
So hey, looking st it further it is possible that Tumblr was bound to be raped this whole time. Verizon planned to wipe out the porn 2 years ago for a better chance at ad trafficking.
internetsquirrel

so was the "dusting off my newgrounds account" a joke or...?
internetsquirrel

nvm i just checked out newgrounds and the tweets and they're definitely not going anywhere with nsfw for a very very very long time

add your newgrounds to your "other sites" on inkbunny lol
Charem
5 years, 4 months ago
I quite agree.

There's better places to host this stuff. Porn was never truly the point of Tumblr or Twitter, so they're really not the best places to put such content up; it will always incur a risk, as Tumblr proved.

But people are truly obsessed with social media sites, that they try to use them for their art over actual art sites, so they can spend more time on social media.

twitter has 360 million users I don't think they care. If they did the fury drama squads would of gotten many prominent furry porn artists removed from twitter years ago. I would be absolutely shocked to see a similar move by them.

Twitter is BLEGH for art. If anything I just go to Boorus then fav the source pics on here or FA if I can
