[Help] Computer troubles; My livelyhood is at stake.

Update: After some consultation with a proper Tech friend the first goals are to replace/update RAM and then a new Graphics Card.
So aiming for $450.

~

I really hate doing this sort of thing... and it should be said first and foremost if I had any sort of foreplanning  it could had been avoided entirely. But, here we are.

My current computer which I've had for about 5 years now has been through a lot of moving and bumping and other troubles, and well... it's not doing well. I dunno how much time it has left, but the fan has started acting up (even after proper cleaning and readjusting) and it'd had a lot of other performance issues, slowdowns, etc. I been meaning to get a new one, but a lot of things have gotten in the way that I didn't want to bring up. I don't like bothering people with my problems, and I figured I could deal with them... and while most are under control I'm still a ways to go before things are moving more smoothly, and my computer isn't about to wait for me to catch up.

TL;DR: I need a new computer cos my current one is dying. And I would really, really appreciate some support so I can continue working on here, and doing art in general.

I will do anything to meet this goal. Daily streams even when I start feeling stressed, a comic series, slave work, etc. Let others know about my work. Just tell me what you need. Aiming for $450.

Or if you rather make a donation, please support via a Ko-Fi.

This stuff ALWAYS crops up in the deadzone of a month where my funds are too damn tight. I'd give you some but I simply cannot as it means I go without food for a week.

Well i can offer my tech services.
i'd need to talk to you a bit to get more of a history of the symptoms

i'd like to know things like when did the fan start bugging out what it's not doing and doing.
how and when the shutdowns acure

how many movs. it's had and when was the last time you gave a few preticular parts some TLC.

odds are we can get her up and stable again without it costing you much at all.

if you want to try give me a call on discord

"Moving and bumping" suggests what you need is a new harddrive, not new ram/graphics. Your tech-friend is wrong as fuuuuuck to suggest otherwise. Ram and Graphics cards(cooling fans excluded) are immobile parts. They aren't degraded by physical jostling.

We did a specs check over Discord with video. Things may not be a sever as I initially thought, and just needs updates and some small replacements.
I would like to trust he knows since he got a first-hand view of the situation.

What you probably need is a new CPU cooler... or maybe even just fresh thermal paste. But new ram + new graphics is just such a not-the-problem kind of thing. Those parts tend to not degrade at all.

Run MemTest86 from a USB stick, as well. That would actually see if the ram has an issue.

The hard drive/s are usually the first thing to go, and slowdowns/crashes can be a sign it's about to kick it. It could be low RAM causing the crashes too, though...

I'd suggest backing up your more important stuff, just in case the HDD kicks it. Been there, lost a ton.

Yeah, I always have backups. There's no crashing, but a lot of slowdown at times. I may had been freaking out more than needed.

It's all good, I've been there before. Best of luck with the upgrades.

Make sure your power supply can handle the new graphics card. Years ago I upped my video card and completely forgot about the power supply. Ended up frying the poor thing because it couldn’t keep up.

Don't replace things that you aren't sure are the cause of the problem. Performance issues are usually a problem with software, not hardware. For instance, it could be a problem with Windows Update or something else eating up all the CPU in the background, or some background service or program taking up all the RAM. Sometimes it's not even that, and it's just the specific program that you're running that may be having issues with drivers after updating. These sorts of issues can be identified simply by keeping Process Explorer running in the background and then looking at the graphs once the slowdowns start.
