So I moved back to where I grew up after 10 years being away.
I hate it so much.
This place is cold for like 50% of the year. Something you really notice when you're used to one, maybe two months of kinda cold and it snows only once every three years. No wonder I grew up depressed. The people here are just fucking awful. Everyone walks around with a chip on their shoulder. I liked it better when I was the only one.
And the traffic... holy shit the traffic.
It's way worse now than when I left. The freeway is backed up all the fucking time so you can't ever use it. The surface roads are a mess of near constant construction with signs everywhere telling you that the right lane is closed, which half the time is a lie and you switched lanes for no reason. There are giant gravel haulers all over the fucking place because somebody always needs gravel for some reason. The damn things never get up to speed since it takes them two miles to get to 45 mph and there are lights every 100 feet. And god help you if you get stuck behind one since it will fling rocks into your windshield with machine gun regularity.
Oh, and apparently the place to toss your leftover nails is in the street. It's a monthly ritual to go out to the car in the morning and find a flat tire.
But by far the worst are the commuters. It's like they are actively trying to murder everyone around them. These people will drive up your ass and harass you for daring to drive only 10 mph over the speed limit. Then they will whip around you and cut you off so they can do the same thing to the next person in front of you. And then they'll come across someone who will actively engage in a joust with that person to prevent them from passing. These people don't drive defensively, they drive offensively. They should just mount guns on everyone's cars and let them hash it out.
It's an hour commute to work every day and an hour and a half back, because of course it takes longer to get home. I never want to go anywhere cuz fuck getting in the car if I don't have to.
