Tales of Graces f. Namco, Why You Suck?

by
tl;dr
Namco is greedy. Low sales makes them not want to localize Tales series. They lack promoting being part of the reason why it doesn't sell as much as it should. Atlus wants Tales series and would do a better job localizing. Fans should make a movement?

Oh right, greed. Not caring about gamers and just money. Anyway this is about how bad Namco is, not so much Tales of series. I want to get Tales of Graces f myself and all. Just a heads up, avoid talking about that game, I don't wanna hear spoilers of this or any game. Don't be a lame ass to spoil any game for anyone.

Back on topic.

Namco had said a long while ago that they don't want to localize the Tales series because lack of sales. Thing is, that is Namco's fault. They lack promoting it and advertising it. How do you expect a game to sell when hardly anyone knows about it? Even on their own damn Facebook lacks mention of it. ( https://www.facebook.com/NamcoBandai ). Instead they just like to beat a dead horse. Just promoting games that are easily going to sell a ton anyway, like the DBZ and Naruto games and more recently, Street Fighter x Tekken. I mean those games get enough promotion and will sell a lot anyway... why don't they put a bit more energy to promoting their lesser known games such as the Tales series?

It is just upsetting. Though honestly all I have ever played and beaten is Tales of Symphonia, still. Partly because I was unaware of the other Tales games in the past and only knew of Symphonia because of playing Phantasia on a SNES emulator. So now I wonder about Tales of Abyss and Eternia and all... but they are not as easy to get anymore? Unless they are on PSN or something like that.

So why is there no Operation Tales Series or whatever? I mean there was that whole Operation Moonfall and Rainfall and other such to bring Xenoblades and The Last Story to the US on the Wii. Why can't a group like that be formed for the Tales series? Unless there is and I am just unaware of it.

To tell Namco "You want sales? Promote your bloody game. You complain about lack of sales, then freakin promote and advertise it. You don't even have to do much, just talk about it on your Facebook and other sites where it doesn't cost money to advertise unlike on TV where it does cost money."

Least I think that is how things work. Just... ugh. I want Tales of Vesperia and yes I am aware it is on the 360 in the US but Japan only for the PS3 version. I want the full experience and all. To have more content and whatever else the PS3 version has over the 360 version, which I think is a lot. Too lazy to look it up right now. But like 40 hours extra content or something? More characters and story and other things?

So yeah I dunno. Just wanting to get that out and all. I am wondering if Tales of Graces f sells well enough if they will bring Vesperia for PS3. Highly doubtful. But just sad sad. Namco, like most bad companies out there, only care about the money, not the games or the gamers. Just so long it makes them money.

You have those like Atlus who are more than glad to bring the Tales series over at a better pace if they had the rights but nope, Namco doesn't wanna sell? Thing is, Atlus took the risk bring over Demon's Souls over and it worked out for them. But then what happens? Namco gets their greedy paws on the sequel, Dark Souls, and rakes in the cash seeing it will sell well and not having took the risk to begin with. How if not for Atlus we wouldn't even seen Demon's or even Dark Souls in the US.

Just sad sad how the gaming world is... well sad how the world is with ANYTHING these days. Such utter greedy and corruption. If gaming publishers and all that were ran by real gamers, we would get more fair deals and better games. Publishers just step their hands into games too much and ruin good games. Either crash the game to the ground and scratch their heads as to why so we never see another. Or the game still sells well but is not as good as it could have been and only us real gamers know that, not the mindless mass market.

I guess that is all I have to say about it for now. I may have forgotten other things I would have said about it but... eh. I think you all get the idea from this. Just ranting and such about this. Just as I said at the start, avoid talking about this or any game out there. As to not spoil things for me or others out there. If you have to describe a game to give an example of something, just try to avoid anything specific, such as name and events just... I dunno.

I have nothing insightful to add; I just want to note I'm quite enjoying ToGf.

I'll tell you abyss is good, but it was ported and localized very badly.
Because of this the PS2 Japanese version far exceeds the NA 3DS version.
Just a heads up for that.

I see. What do you mean exactly? The NA PS2 version is worse or better than the NA 3DS version?

The NA 3ds version has 1 glitch fix, but other than that its a sloppy port. You'd think with the small screen they'd use antialasing when they scaled it down, they didn't. Because of that the graphics are very bad, even worse with the 3d effect.

Howdy, just read the whole article. I think, for the most part you're right. I just tried a, "Tales," game; Tales of the Abyss (3DS). I'm not even a quarter into the game, and I've already fallen in love with it. So far, it's been great. I've planed on purchasing Graces f when it comes out, and I'd love to see Xillia out. I think a, "Operation Tales," movement would be an excellent idea, at least to even try to release the remakes. But I think that the series is relatively unknown for the most part. I've met ten out of millions of people who knew about the franchise, and I'm now trying to build awareness.

But then come the downsides... Tales is, as I said, rather closed in. It isn't a Super Power Tier franchise; it doesn't even hit Higher Tier. As much as I hate to say it, Namco's making a smart business choice. I've only seen few commericials for a Tales game, and even that sold relatively unspectacularly. While more ads would obviously help, the people I've talked to said it was to, "cartoony;" too, "Final fantasy-ish or Zelda-like." Namco seems to think that a good portion of their western fanbase is into Naruto, anime games, and classics. They seem to be right. I also have to disagree with letting real gamers in. It wouldn't end well.

Tales of Graces f is already out, has been for about 4 days now.

And eh what is America to blame for lack of Tales sales? And funny how they say too cartoony yet are all for Naruto which is that. And I mean doesn't Zelda and Final Fantasy sell real well here? So I don't get what you mean there.

Still though, Atlus would care enough to bring it. Or bring enough supporters, maybe even do a whole Kickstarter thing which I barely heard about since Double Fine Adventures, and that could help localize the games? Eh... it's like I should learn japanese and import or something but... eh oh well.

It is? Damn, guess I'm going to GameStop tomorrow.

Anyway, what I meant was, Tales, when compared to two of the biggest rpg's (Zelda, FF, Pokemon, And the current free-roamer: Skyrim) it seems childish; like a kid friendly varient. That's not true, but it's still a common misconception. And Naruto has been about fan-service, versus an independent series like Tales. Naruto was expected to did poor, and did better. Not much, but still better than expected. Tales was meant to shoot high, and barely sold above Naruto. Basically, just as Dead Rising is amazing in America, and piss-poor in Japan, Tales is the inverse.

An easier of saying is what Kupoc said: Namco IS xenophobic. Maybe Atlus will be our saving grace, but still...

Namco is Xenophobic as fuck.

Personally, I love all the Tales series I played. Grace new engine is different but good. I like there normal 3D engine (with TP, skill sets, and normal combing [ToG combo system requires you to think]). I love the humor they have in this one (aka the rockagona skits). TBH, I never seen Namco promote there games that well. At least the tales series are fun in many ways unlike another JRPG we know *coughFFcough*

So are you saying that because of sales the game is available in the US but not Japan. <.< Shoot just contact your american friends and have them ship it to you if you want it that bad. Seriouly I would do that..
Raukue
6 years, 5 months ago
Eh? Tales is a Japan game. Because it does not sell well in the US, it is not brought here. I don't know Japanese so would be a waste to get it imported and all when I'd want to know what is being said and all.
RedReynart

Yeah one thing about foreign things is the fact that you need to know their language to really enjoy it. XD Hmm I guess I did have that backwords with who has it.. And somehow I always thought you were Japaneese O.o I guess you are just really good with their style.

Odd. Nah I am not that good. But yeah if I knew japanese then that'd be one less problem. Seems hard to understand all those symbols though. Always think it can be mistaken as another if you don't look carefully enough and all but eh. If I had super powers I would want the powers to just magically be able to translate and voice a japanese game and well help bring games to gamers that we are deprived of and all that. Even make my own original games, again magically and in an instant. Heh I guess that is cheap and of course pure fantasy. But eh I wonder if it will snap the market to get back into line and stop screwing us. Eh... dunno if I am making sense. Just nice to dream about these things to help cope with the sad truth I guess.

Have you ever thought of game development? Seriously here, I am getting into it and its one of my biggest passions. Alot of people tell me its no more than a pipe dream and to always have something to fall back on and yes they are right. But with the skills of Programing,Marketing and Business,  3d animation and art, as well as Sound Effects and Music. There is alot to fall back on. I know for a fact I will not be some guy working for some big name as soon as I graduate from university but I know what options I have and I know if I wanted to I can free lance and make something great. Just look and Notch =P So who knows maybe you wont have super powers to make a bunch of games maybe just one awesome super team that will.

I have thought about it but I dunno. I just feel something like that would be more like a hobby for me. I really dunno what I wanna dow ith my life. That is one of the things I think about but as I said, it feels like I'd only want to do such as a hobby dunno if as an actual career.

Abyss came on the 3DS, if you have one of them. And a lot of tales games have come out, they just aren't advertised as well as they should be.

I bought tales of theabyss 3ds and graces f to support namco sales in the US.

the 3ds port for abyss is solid but I much prefer the PS2 release.

graces F has so far proven to be allot of fun the combat is a big breath fof reash air and I recamend it. it's one of the better tales games I have played. Im hoping they will localize Xillia. But i wont hold my breath. namcop bandai has shown over and over that not only have they very little interest in tales of games in america but they consistently show a strange obsession with screwing non japanese gamers.

Yeah... I mostly want PS3 version of Vesperia to come over. And yeah I mean why don't they just sale the rights to Atlus? Or one of the other companies who care more about gamers, bringing over japanese games? I mean really if a publisher is not gonna care about a game property, why hold onto it? Sell it if they say it doesn't sell enough. Though I bet if Atlus got hold of it, sales would increase and Namco would want it back. Meh.

And yeah I mean DBZ and Naruto is like their CoD with people. To appeal to a certain market and all.
Raukue

I just wonder if good Graces sales would help them bring PS3 Vesperia or Xillia over... if it even matters at all to help sway them. Just sucks to be deprived of games because we don't know the language and all.

Oh the agony of it all. Just can only hope for a movement/group to help bring them over... but I guess no one has enough interest to do that who would know how.

Vesperia HAS been released on ps3 and meny of us are pissed about it.

Not becouse we diddent want it but becouse the ps3 version is supirior to the 360 version and has more content  and costumes <.< but yeah it's allready here.
Raukue
6 years, 5 months ago
Yeah I know we have the 360 version, as I think I stated somewhere, maybe another comment. But I want the PS3 version, but that is Japan only. That is what I don't like, it is not in the US. As you said, PS3 one is superior and that is why I want it. I don't wanna get the 360 versions which seems more like a beta or something from the sounds of it.

Actually it wouldn't sell to well under Atlus over their games not being released in large supplies.
Raukue
6 years, 5 months ago
I dunno. Demon's Souls was easy to find and all, least online. Konami is worse when it comes to not large enough supplies.

Still the fact Atlus cares enough that they'd wanna bring Tales over at a better rate than Namco.

it's like you read into my soul. I really want tales of grace too. but i luck the PS3 to play it. so i'm stuck with getting tales of abyss which will be the only thing missing in my tales of stuff. well minus the new tales. if it wasn't for find those games on a whim i would never known the greatest of those games.
Raukue
6 years, 5 months ago
Yup. Because of me back when I barely discovered emulators, when I was a kid and all, and finding Tales of Phantasia somehow, I never would have picked up Tales of Symphonia and such either. Just has such a charm about it.

I guess I want the others I missed out on but it feels messy to do so. Lack of room for the console and I dunno.
SnowGabumon
6 years, 5 months ago
first tales i found was on Xmas and it was tales of legenda. after that game i thought that was it. it was fun game and left me wanting more. then i found Tales of Symphonia. I was thinking someone made a game with almost the same name so i looked it to find out it was part of series. I felt so cheated that half of them were not in the US or on system I own. so i got one half on my psp other on a PS2 gamecube, 3DS and the xbox360. but now i can't follow it anymore. why did they have to be PS3 only? made my heart heart drop that day.
Raukue
6 years, 5 months ago
Well Sony originating in Japan it would make sense that it ends up being PS3 only. So yeah. PS3 does tend to have most the JRPGs and of course back in PS1 days all the JRPGs were there. If you enjoy JRPGs it would make sense to have gotten a PS3 over 360. But I take it you got 360 because it is cheaper and all your friends are on that?
SnowGabumon
6 years, 5 months ago
that and tales of vespera was on that one. plus i didn't see any games for PS3 come up at all at the time when i was choosing which one to get so 360 won out on me. now that i think about it i would have lost ether way XD
Raukue
6 years, 5 months ago
Yeah back when the consoles were new, I guess nothing really on the PS3, as with any console launch. Now it seems PS3 has all the games.
wicked1one11
6 years, 5 months ago
I personally think Atlus should take it, since they have a tendency to release rather good, if not just "different" games, and sell rather well!

Also, I think it was because of the PS3 version being massively superior that Microsoft now requires all games to be equal in content if released on both systems, unless specified by a "Special Edition" or what not. Doesn't stop Bamco from doing such anyways! Just look at SFxT, PS3 version gets extra characters! >:C
Raukue
6 years, 5 months ago
Makes Microsoft seem like babies to be like "If it is on PSN first then we don't want it!" or such as you said there. 360 is going to get those characters, but likely would have to pay for them? So yeah. Gotta hate Capcom though, locking the characters on the disc like that.

But yeah Atlus would do good with the Tales series. Might make more people aware of the series as well. Maybe get better voice actors as well? But yeah...
