Aftermath of hurricane Florence

I had to leave my home because of this storm at a drop of a hat's notice with eight kids
as I live in the coastal area of North Carolina..

For it landed as a cat one storm, instead of foretasted as a cat four , it was felt over three states...

For those impacted I feel your frustration and pain.  For those who ferociously worked round the clock to give something as simple as water restored... and other services I salute your dedication to your fellow man..

I listened to the radio as the storm passed and someone commented on how the power crews passed this individual's house hundreds of times a day but they had no power,, but others around them did,,so the individual got into the car and drove to a location for hot food and water,, (no power there either).

At this PODS location the individual  saw an entire crew of lineman eating food, talking laughing.. and sharing stories of the conditions of their work,,

The individual walked over to them and outlasted to them that they did not deserve to eat anything as for those are still without power and are sweating and mad.. (the individual used several colorful words here) ..

ALL of the The lineman stopped and listened to this persons bitching,, and after the individual spoke what they had to say to all of the men and women there,.. a kid who was eating a meal, walked up to this individual and  asked this person,, and I quote." IF you worked 16 hours a day hundred of miles from your family in a strange place, a hot meal may be the only comfort these men and women may have,, they came here from all over to give you what we take for granted and ask for nothing, so do us a favor and say thanks and sorry for intruding onto them having a hot meal!  The kid walked over to the lineman who was closest to the individual and said.. You can come to my house and have my bed to sleep in if you are tired.. The lineman said Thank you but I have a place to sleep and its in my truck as others are working their turn.!"

When my brother in law who is a professional fire fighter told me this I was so shocked it made me cry.. not for the person who complained, but to the kid who stood up for hundreds of linemen and others who were there..

I usually don,t write stuff like this but I needed to share this,,

What comes to mind also is a quote I heard when I was a kid...

“If you could only sense how important you are to the lives of those you meet; how important you can be to the people you may never even dream of. There is something of yourself that you leave at every meeting with another person.”

Good for the kid. I can certainly understand the frustration of being without power and having to wait your turn, but linemen and -women are people, too, and no doubt they were all doing the best they could. Two of my uncles work as linemen for years, so I have some idea of what sort of dedication and hard work that requires, and I have nothing but the utmost respect for anyone who is willing to take the job and sacrifice their time, and their personal safety, to help others like that.

I'm sorry that you had to leave your home because of the storm, and I hope you're okay and everything will be back to normal before too long. Best wishes to you, your family, and everyone who was affected by the storm!

I came home to a messy yard three trees down  one in the roof of my dads shed and an ice box of spoiled food...

But I am thankful for others are worse than me.
