Beware of this artist

Well then I've gone long enough, I guess.
Back in the beginning of March I commissioned "ariannafray_pr" ( https://www.furaffinity.net/user/ariannafraypr/ - linking just so you know who to not commission, not who to swarm, ok? I trust you people )
Paid $125 for this too - I think my biggest commission purchase ever.
However, to this day I only have a basic sketchy preview to show for it, all the way back from April.
Months go by without any response, even though I've found evidence of the artist being active on several accounts (discord and VK) as well as a very recent livestream on Twitch.
Notes unread, messages ignored.
Their last journal suggests something horrible happened as it says "I physically can not work and draw now.", but I no longer believe that, as she has the ability to chat on Discord and make livestreams of herself drawing, but not to answer notes or messages from a person she took over $100 from.

So in conclusion, it seems like they just took the money and ran.
Somewhat odd when someone with a full gallery of images does this, but I suppose having talent doesn't automatically give you decency.
Hopefully nobody else gives the artist the time of day.

Man, I should have used that money for something healthier than this... like fast food.

Since you are within the window to do so, see if you can file a dispute/claim through paypal (if that is what you used) with the statement that you feel this cannot be resolved through standard means of contact.

I have sent a message to paypal asking if they can help me at all with this
But I'm very skeptical...

Have you filed a dispute before? You need the transaction details (when you sent the payment, transaction-number, ect.) first. Filing a dispute usually will get their attention as it puts a 'hold' on the amount of the transaction.

In the details of filing a dispute, you would state that you only received a sketch rather than the full-product and that you have gone months without any form of contact received from the individual but have noticed activity from the person outside of the work.

Sorry to hear that, hope you never have to deal with people like that again. Or at least not when money's involved.

It is really a big deterrent from me buying commissions, to be honest

Thats sad to hear but also very understandable :( Guess especially those high-priced commissions you will avoid for the future now :/

It irritates me when so many artists that draw well just snatch the commissioner's money and run... Like, if you don't want to draw for the person just say so, they'd be disappointed but it won't ruin your chances of ever making a living off of art.

I don't know, it just sounds like a very short-sighted plan

Yeah, I hate when you commission someone and they ignore you, personally I haven't had one that big, but I'm still waiting on a pic from 3 people, all of whom have been taking months to get to my pic I already paid for, one of which is 2 years late, yet they still livestream doing art, I'm just too nice of a person to confront them because I feel like I'm being pushy, and I even suspect it might be the subject matter, which I have brought up to them and I'd be willing to change it, but they tell me it's fine

I suppose I've allowed it to go this long since I've felt like I'd be doing something really 'd*ckish' if I escalated it.

I've had this, and many other issues over the years... Where people take my money and I spend years attempting to either get it back or get something to show for it... Or where I commission something for well over $100 and receive something that isn't what I asked for... It isn't even the correct character that I asked for. I only have one character. How can you get that wrong? It's incredible and I don't understand how someone could be this incompetent.

Mini-rant over. This is why I don't commission from random artists anymore. I have to know a person for a while before I'll give them my money.

and here I want to get into doing commissions after I get a good computer and a drawing tablet... and people like that makes it harder for new artists to make a little side coin.

I'm sorry to read that :/
I had issues with some artists too, but never that big
I think it's a good thing to tell other people to beware about this
Thank you very much for the advice
