I hate our medical system, really I do...

by
I have to get some dental work that is critical to my health and well being, close to $10K in dental work (and that includes anesthesia).

In short, I am needing a deep cleaning, an extraction, root canal bridges and many crowns. This has to be done in order to lessen the risk of losing my teeth.

One thing that pisses me off is that our so-called great country thinks that its vetrans don't deserve dental care unless said veteran is 100% disabled. But vets can pretty much every medical need taken care of if they need it. As for dental insurance, even VaDip, doesn't allow for major dental to done for at least 6-18 months depending on the procedure.

I have started a GoFundMe drive to raise the needed funds. However, due to my fear of dentists, I would prefer to get all of the needed work done in one session than in 18 separate sessions that my dentist wants.

I have put off creating and posting my GoFundme for over a week after exhausting all resources.

I feel ya, when I had my wisdom teeth extracted, I had them do all 4, because I hate needles, and I hate the sound the dental machines make...…...ugh straight up nails on a chalkboard that stuff is

That is why I am wanting to be sedated for all of the work. As I would more than likely fight the dentist and his assistant(s)

Trust me, I want this done as soon as possible. Also getting this work done will only be first step (and hopefully last) towards getting full dental implants.

might wanna investigate how much it would be cost wise to just have all the teeth taken out and to get implants instead of dentures. might be simpler and cheaper

Have done that and getting full dental implants will cost more than 4X what I need for my dental work right now.

wel there is also a new trend popping up called medical travel. you travel to another country to get work done because its cheaper over all than getting it here.

Do not do it without anesthetic. I tried that as an edgy teen and now im traumatised for life.

Trust me, going without is not an option. I know that I will be eating pain killers like candy for a few days after all the work is done.

also the whole thing about avoiding being traumatized for life. Its not that it hurts bad. it hurts weird. My point is that you're making a good call.

Not a big fan of pain myself

How many teeth need root canals? Would advise just getting them pulled if it's only 1-2. Seems like they can cause problems later in life.

I need one extraction (broken molar) and one root canal (easier to do that and save the tooth and crown it and use it for a bridge.

Sadly not any better on the civilian front.. dental and vision are totally separate and like wise a pain.. my dental insurance will only cover 1000 a year

Yeah, it's scary that one of the main areas to help improve most people's lives is getting proper dental care. Bad teeth does dictate what foods you can eat (mostly stuff that is bad for you if you are trying to have a healthy diet)

the whole dentistry profession is hopelessly still mired in the middle ages. i hate the dentist.  i keep telling them that the body knows how to create teeth they just need to figure out how to tell it to make a new set. there have been some advances but i dont have hope i will see such a thing in my life :(

if you are in the USA look into a free dental clinics if you are under the federal poverty level like i am, then you could qualify for free dental care, back in  2010 i crashed on my bicycle and broke a few teeth it wasnt until 2 years go that i found a free Dental clinic that allows me to get my mouth repaired.  It's been a slow process but i am almost complete with the restoration

Didn't you need similar dental work done over two years ago?  You stated in that journal here https://inkbunny.net/j/218372-Ainoko-just-got-back-from... that dental insurance doesn't kick in for 9 months.  What happened with that hon?  Even at the maximum wait of 18 months as you say you have now, your dental issues should've been fixed by August/September 2017.

We need better healthcare in this country, period.  $10,000 is too much damn money.  Bush's healthcare was biased against people with preexisting conditions, and while Obamacare fixed that, it did fuckall to help with much else aside from raising copays.  (At least we avoided Trumpcare, PHEW!)  And while some dental is covered by Medicare, good luck trying to find a dentist who takes it that isn't a fucking hack.*  So I found the best dentist in Wisconsin, found out what insurances he took, found the best plan for me, and now I pay the monthly bill.  Due to how proficient-yet-gentle he is, I'm not scared of getting an operation done by him if I need one.

Use Google and find out all you can about the current dentist you're seeing.  If they're rated under 4/5 stars and is too abrasive, find a dentist who's better.  Your impending bill might cost you the same, but at least the fear factor will be reduced.

*(Yeah, this one dumbass from South Korea named Dr. Baek didn't know the difference between freezing uppers and lowers, and so when he worked on my lower jaw, I felt EVERYTHING.  He refused to put any more anesthetic in my teeth until I started screaming, calling him a "fucking sadistic nazi sack of shit", screaming about how he was torturing me, about "DON'T YOU KNOW HOW TO FREEZE THE LOWER JAW YOU FUCKING RETARD?!", and how the couple of patients who came after me heard that and left.  Even when he froze my gums four more times, I felt everything.

After that was Dr. Levine who was a cheap penny-pinching shylock who was supposed to repair an old filling, and instead of using the proper ratio of filler to metal, he used far less metal than filler.  When I went to New York a few days later, I was chewing gum, and the metal part of the filling was lifted right out, leaving only the filler and a bad sensitivity to the cold.

So yeah I got tired of the cheap medicare dentists that cut corners, and I upgraded, LOL.  Instead of being afraid, I was a friggin bulldog.)

I cancelled the fundraiser after things with my old apartment took precedence over my teeth. I did find a better dentist and am still looking for cheaper alternatives (even going to dental schools in my area). Due to my fear of dentists, I would prefer to get everything done in one sitting instead of multiple sessions as well as being sedated so I don't fight with the dentist as they work on my teeth.

I think it would be impossible to get everything done in one go.  It would probably require your dentist to book an entire day, and I don't think any office would do that.  DEFINITELY get the sedation.
