I guess most of you noticed that I didn't really keep to the schedule with my Nightfury story. I got the artwork for it sometimes during the middle of June, and I'm really itching to reveal it, but I think it'll be far better received if it arrives with the story, so I'm keeping it for that. This way, you will know who each Night fury is, and not just see some random, pretty dragons having sex :P
Ok now, back to the story. Because it's all prose and communication through body language, this is definitely one of the harder stories I'm writing. It's quite fun and satisfying in its own way, as the best thing I liked about HTTYD was the interaction between humans and dragons, namely how dragons express themselves. I definitely got the skill to achieve this, but it does require more than one editing draft to get all that prose to a level I am happy with. I want it to be descriptive but engaging, to be informative yet have a decent enough flow that you don't all skip to the sexy parts due to boredom :P
The whole story will definitely be finished during the course of this week, so we're not talking about a huge delay. Plus, I think I'll release it in chapters to minimize the wait even further. Already gave chapter 1(which is by far the most difficult because it features the most dragons) an editing pass, so it'll be ready tomorrow(Tuesday) or Wednesday at the latest, with the rest of the story arriving during the weekend I suppose.
I really like the direction I picked with this story, and can only hope you'll share the sentiment. If I wanted to play easy mode, I'd have written a short smut involving the two Night furies, but I wanted a little more from this, so the first chapter is about their life in a colony under a young, sexually frustrated alpha dragon. This alpha dragon is my own, invented species, but he has a funny name and interesting quirks, so I think it maybe sorta perhaps fits the universe I created? I dunno, I'll let you decide :D
Sorry about the wait once again. If I wasn't such a perfectionist, I'd have finished the story already, but even with shorter projects, I sure love to make my life complicated >.< And I have a love and hate relationship with chapter 1 because it has so much great stuff in it, but I really don't like that prose to sound preachy and repetitive so I really want to give it another pass and add more subtleties to it in the form of character voice.
TL;DR: Chapter 1 arrives on tuesday or wednesday, and the rest of the story, together with the art, will be posted later this week, probably during the weekend.
