Art Truths

1.  You can draw whatever you want and be happy about it no matter what anyone else thinks.

2.  Art is a skill and all skills get better with practice.

3.  Practice is not only the doing, but also the effort to make improvement by being aware of what needs to be improved.

4.  Being a popular artist comes from loving to make art, making art well, and appealing to a large number of people’s interests.

5.  Appealing to the art interests of a large number of people will almost certainly mean practicing art skills outside of the ones you find personally interesting.

6.  Treat whatever you are drawing with the same wonder as if it has never been drawn before, even when you know it has.

7.  Never try to make a masterpiece.  Good work happens when you are focused in the moment and not in the end result.

8.  Good artists think they aren’t good enough; great artists keep practicing anyway.

9.  Selling Furry art is grossly underpaid compared to traditional commercial art sales.

10.  Being a commercial artist is generally more stressful than being a Furry or otherwise independent artist.

11.  Making art only becomes a chore if you stop giving the act of drawing your full attention.

12.  Happy artists are those who can look back on their older work and be proud at how far they have come without blaming their younger selves for being imperfect.
