what are you looking for in a con. small cons have a different flavor vibe than the large ones if there is something local to you I recommend that unless there is some underlying reason you prefer not to

Well in terms of numbers AC and MFF has the most people attending.. Otherwise no idea since as to individuals that is an individual thing haven't been to AC or MFF in close to 5yrs.. Either is a reasonable drive for me with AC being about 3.5 top 4hrs

In my opinion of 43 cons attended, FWA in Atlanta is by far the best in all my grading categories.

Also gives you a full year to prepare.

I like them both for very different reasons, so I'm not going to be biased and recommend one or the other specifically.

Anthrocon has the whole damn downtown area of Pittsburgh transform by our presence there.  It is quite spectacular to see the local businesses throw their arms open for us as a whole.  However, the airport is 45 minutes away from downtown, so if you're not driving there, I'd recommend looking into train, bus or carpool for your journey or final stretch, as those specifically go straight downtown, unless you can spare the shuttle fees/cab fare to get to the airport, or get picked up/dropped off there.

MFF has a HUGE advantage over Anthrocon in that it's right by a MAJOR airport, but food options are nowhere near as varied.  Expect to drive/Uber/etc for expanded dining and outside of con entertainment options... or expect to walk several miles a day.  The weather has held up for us there, in general, as in only a few inches of snow at worst, which is quite light considering it's towards the end of fall.

So happy to at least have met up with you at BLFC!  :3

I'd say MFF. You have more time to prepare, it's bigger than AC now, and you may be more likely to see European furs you wouldn't meet otherwise, because it's a little more convenient. (Pittsburgh is not a great option for direct flights, and Chicago is already ~8 hours to/from Europe.)

Everyone should do AC, at least once.
That said, after seven straight years, I'm going to try and make MFF this year. The good thing is that AC is like coming back to an old friend. On the negative side, like an old friend, you know exactly all of the good and bad stuff you'll encounter. That's why I'm trying something new.

I say MFF. It's a perfect something to get you from thanksgiving to Christmas AND you don't have to set a foot outside of you don't want too! The skywalks and other come ting passages between the hotel and convention center plus the way the hotel is designed makes you feel like the entire hotel is one giant party. AC is in June/July and you have to go out into the heat to get between buildings. HOT for suiting!
