This journal is about orchestra music

I felt like going back and finding and sharing my favorite piece to have been a part of in my high school band.

This music sounds like it belongs in the end credits of an epic RPG, and in fact while I was playing this in high-school, the medley during the credits of Final Fantasy 7 always came to mind. It was a lot of fun to play.

One thing that seems to frustrate some people is when they send me music and I hate it or am indifferent, which happens most of the time. It's extremely rare for me to find a piece of music that I truly enjoy, I'm incredibly picky, and 99% of songs with sung lyrics I just don't find appealing at all. On the rare occasion I do enjoy a song with lyrics, the actual spoken words are completely irrelevant and I pay absolutely no attention to them beyond the harmony or rhythm, how well it fits with the other instruments, etc. For that reason, the language doesn't matter at all either. In fact if it's a foreign language, the lyrics are a lot less distracting. I think that may be why many songs that I enjoy are ones that not a lot of other people enjoy, and vice versa. Hehe even songs about rape don't appeal to me at all if the music doesn't hold up. I do have a soft spot for full orchestra music though, and especially if it's contextual, such as I can easily imagine it going well with moments in video games or other things.

Very nice. It's nice to see some culture around here. I'll give this a listen in a bit, but while we're on the topic, here's a link to my favorite piece I performed with my college choir. I think you'd appreciate it overall; it goes through a lot of "moods" but overall is very high-energy and was just a blast to perform.

heh culture. The ultra-pervy IB culture is still good enough for me.

True enough, but every once in a while it's nice to talk about other interests too.

Anyway, I agree with much of that sentiment, which may seem a little ironic coming from a vocalist. But yeah, I really love instrumental music because it tends to evoke a much stronger emotional "image" in by comparison to songs with lyrics, which sometimes fly in the face of the mood the music itself is setting. Video game music in particular does this masterfully, at least when the companies making them care enough to try.

As for orchestra music, you can't really beat the Russian classics;
Russian Polka

Dr. Zhivago - Lara's Theme

 A really great concert version with balalaikas and accordions;

Prokofiev - Dance of the Knights

This one is a real classic...Starts out slow and mellow, and gets more alive as it goes.

Well Exede is being slow as if often is on the weekends, and I can't watch these easily, and might forget about them, so sorry in advance if that happens.

For me I always liked movie soundtracks, instrumentals more than a song with lyrics, now stuff like 80s pop from movies ya, but I always have a soft spot for movie soundtracks.
