So am i the only one that's not praising this as the single best game of the year(even though the year just started)? Everyone i talk to about this game is like "Best game ever, 10/10, 100/100, no flaws, perfect game" and i'm here going like" Dude...what?"
Now this doesn't mean i didn't enjoy the game, i did. the relationship between Kratos and BOY(Also take a shot everytime Kratos says BOY in the game, quick way to die) is fantastic and BOY himself is a pretty good character. The drawven smiths were funny and Mimir was...well he's fucking hilarious too. However the game certainly isn't perfect, nor is it the 10/10 most people/reviewers say it is and here's why. Also note that this is just MY PERSONAL OPINION, nothing else:
The story has many inconsistencies and retcons, it suffers a lot from "your princess is in another castle" syndrome, very low enemy variety(and execution variety for that matter), the show every realm sure but they lock you off from more than half of them, the underground sections drag a bit too much,enemy gauntlet sections are...UGH. Character wise, the ones i mentioned are really the only ones that stand out to me. Magni and Modi barely make an impression, BOY's mother is already dead when the game starts so you really can't connect with her so her death is pretty much meaningless to you as a player, Baldr, despite giving you fantastic boss fights, is really boring as a character and Freya...she's your typical mother who wants to protect her kid, like every other single mother in the history of videogames. Combat also felt a little bit stiff and clunky at first. It got better sure but maybe it was just that i adapted to it. Also the ending...First of all that ending cutscene is sequel bait and i DETEST when media does sequel baits, it should stop ASAP. The stuff you learn when you get to Jotunheim...i still don't know how i feel about it honestly.
This may sound nitpicky but that's what i do,i nitpick when other people just take things at face value and don't dive in any deeper. Does this make Dad Of War a bad game? OF FUCKING COURSE NOT! However it does make it a flawed game, a cracked diamond. Still great and pretty to look at but flawed. It's...Flawed Of War
