Bad Experince with commissioners Questions... plz help.

General Bad experience with commissioners questions Please answer as I am trying to understand some things:

#1. When you get a commission how long do you usually give for the person to respond back with a WIP of your art piece before saying something? How long is too long?

#2. IF they do respond, after being threatened with a beware, do you find it acceptable for them to give you a WIP the moment they are threatened or do you still put a beware out despite them trying to instantly appease instead of them doing their work?

#3. What's the worst experience have you had with a commissioner? How did you rectify it?

#4. If you see some one else getting scammed by a commissioner what would you do?

It depends on the detail for all of this. Just as a reference ill answer these questions as if they are simple flat colors.

1. I give about 3 days until i ask upfront how progress is. Of course, before i even buy i ask about queues. If they have a busy queue i tend to give more time.

2 is sorta a weirdly put together question. If i message upfront and they give me a WIP im generally fine with it. I dint try and threaten them to work faster. Thats kinda rude.  You dont know how long the WIP sketch took so maybe what they gave you is what they were doing or what they had after the queue finished.

3. I had someone with no queue commissioned for a comic for me. The first page was amazing quality, and i eagerly awaited the next page. 2 weeks pass, the second page comes out. Looks like a 5 year old made it. I ask about the lack of quality and they told me that they were sick of drawing, and that they can either take the money and run or they can draw the rest of the comic in horrible quality. I had used a gift card so it was irrefundable. I cut off contact and when she made herself apparent again i told everyone she was a con artist.

4. I would tell the friend to get a refund as quick as possible. Whether it be through paypal or the commissioner if they are willing

1. I am easy going, and like to give artist's time to do their thing. I feel you will get a inferior product if you rush them or ask them to draw when they aren't feeling it. As long as they keep in contact with me, I'm fine with waiting quite some time. I know a friend of mine waited year or more (I can't remember exactly) for one, just kept in contact with that person.

2. I usually commission artists that are actively asking for commissions generally, that I can tell are active recently with art, so I haven't had to give a beware, I can't answer this one from experience. If I thought it got to this point, I suppose if they showed a WIP that had at least something new done that would be fine for me.

3. Worst pair I had was something was wrong on their end, (Missed details on a character, or even as much as a missing tail) and wanting to charge me for it. I never commissioned them again and I don't recommend friends or people asking for artists to them.

4. I would tell the scammed person to ask for a refund nicely, if the scammer refuses, to not escalate things. Contact their bank and have the bank count the charge as fraudulent, and explain that the scammer did not provide the service paid for. They should be able to get the money back, I would think.
