First up, right off the bat; no, I have no intention of making cropped/censored patreon pics for exclusives nor paywalling them. In fact, there will be no exclusives. I'll elaborate on that in a bit. And second, This is coming from an artist's (drawing) perspective.
I've been thinking that I should open up a Patreon and Ko-fi account when I hit around 450 - 500 watchers. But when it comes to rewards, a whole lot of artists doesn't add anything special to table. In fact, they don't have much of a reward selection to go by. In fact, almost all the time, we see these kinds of "rewards" we mostly see:
- Full/uncensored versions of the cropped/censored pic
- "Full resolution" version of said pic
- Patreon exclusive pics
- Timed release/early access
- Invitation links to patreon exclusive streams and/or discord
There's things that strikes me the wrong way; using cropped/censored pics to entice people's curiosity, the fact that you have no idea what pic you're pledging for is hiding behind a paywall, the feeling of excluding those that supported you for a long time, but the biggest thing is the quality of the pics themselves. Honestly, I feel like there's gotta be something about that patreon exclusive pic that makes it stand out from the other pics in their gallery. almost 100% of the time, that's not the case. it's pretty much drawn just like how the artist usually draws.
For those reasons, I'm not gonna be doing any of those "rewards" listed above, since the rewards normally literally just pics drawn normally. Other reasons include:
- I want everyone to be able to view my drawings and not just a small select few.
- I feel that those that like you enough will support you, even without the use of making exclusive, cropped/censored drawings.
- I feel that censoring and cropping my drawings to force curiosity out of people makes me look inconfident in myself and my drawings.
- I don't have to waste time looking for "leaked content" and focus my time and energy on drawing.
- I dont have to be involved in unneeded drama involves being "DNP" (I dont mind my pics being reposted as long it's linked back to my account)
- I want to create the want to support me. Not a need to support just to see my hidden pics.
With that said. I'm gonna be taking this route with Patreon and Ko-fi. They'll both be used as a tip jar. Patreon if you wanna support me monthly, and Ko-fi for the one-off tips.
Since I got 235 watchers right now, I still have a quite a way to go. that's plenty of time for me to really improve my drawing by a great deal. I got over 110 drawing ideas (that's around 2K drawings) so there's gonna be LOOOOTS of content coming from me.
