Heyyyy, so... how 'bout this hurricane of lab mice that won't let up, huh? :'D
It's been almost six months since this wild ride started for me, and here's the thing... At this point, I'm about ready to accept that this is not simply a phase or a "kick", but that after 20 years, these guys have somehow finally become a fixture in my art. Truth is, I don't think they're going anywhere, at least not anytime soon.
But wait, hear me out..!
For anyone who's tired of it all, or who might be sad about the apparent shift in creative focus around here, this is actually good news.
Up to this point, I've sort of been clutching them to my chest, as it were... See, I went so long feeling completely starved of inspiration, and just not really making personal art at all, that it scared me. it's also one of the main things that caused me to go quiet for weeks and months on end, over and over, for years. When Pinky and The Brain pics suddenly started pouring out of me a few months ago like a busted fire hydrant, well beyond my control (not exaggerating, I actually started running on far less sleep than usual for the first few weeks of this), I felt like I'd gotten a second chance. And, since all the credit seemed to go to these characters, and their extreme effectiveness as creative muses, I stuck to the little bastards like glue. And it's worked (as you can see by looking at the most recent page-and-a-half of my gallery, yikes).
At this point, all the PaTB art has allowed me to establish a strong habit of sitting down every evening, and doing personal art. That's why there's been so much of it; barring any days I've had to work late on paid projects, I have been drawing these mice at least once every day since the middle of September.
With that habit in place now, I'm beginning to feel a little more "safe" in the idea of drawing other stuff again. Like I said, the mice aren't going anywhere, and will no doubt continue to be annoyingly frequent in my gallery. ;) Main difference is, I'll be interspersing the mouse pics with other things now.
Hopefully that makes sense! Also, thank you guys so much for sticking with me, through drought and through glut, through complete lack of focus and through scary, single-minded obsession. :) I love ya. <3
