Why I got fired

To be completely honest with you I'm not entirely sure the true reason why. All I know is that they really did have it out for me.

To put the situation out there. If you remember the contents of my last journal about it, I've been on the chopping block. Well, yeah it finally happened today, and in my opinion, their reasoning was as flimsy as it was petty.

On Saturday, one of the busier days since work has been hectic,I get a phone call asking to book an order, and that order was for my coworker. Now, it's courtesy to book even or your coworkers when you can. Well, thing was, I seemed to have been confused about something on that guest. I'm not sure what, but even they acknowledged that I had them on hold for a few minutes during said call. So I mad the suggestion that they call back on Monday when their account rep, my coworker, was in. This was apparently extremely unacceptable.

"You could've potentially lost her that order. The guest could've had a bad experience. I mean, if we can't even handle a down payment, why would we be able to handle a cruise." Was what they were saying to me. I created a "Potential bad guest experience." and while I was most definitely confused as to why I had the guest call back since I don't remember what I was confused about, it only made sense that I did so because I wanted to avoid confusion. They sprinkled in there that I had no empathy with the guest. That I just seemed to be very by-the-numbers and such. It was all silly.

But since I was on my last warning, apparently, that was the final straw. "We're going to have to let you go. Sign this. And I'm going to need you to clear your desk and hand in your keycard." No empathy there, either. I did not speak. I simply signed it with my shaking hands, stood up, and left. I gave them no words, and I left the premises.

This was hard. This one really shook me up. I've never been fired from a job before. ANd moreover, I'd be more open to accept being fired if I was lazy or an actual problem. But as of late I've been just skirting at goal, making the sales, and I've straightened up so much from even the nonsense of the last journal. But it wasn't enough. I'm one of the few people fired from the call center. Lumped in with the dude that showed up wasted, the Useless one that would show up 40 minutes late at a time, or the angry one that had no issue yelling back at our guests. They feel that this is where I deserve to be.

This is coming on the cusp of my VP of sales and Director of sales getting ready to promote me. It's not guaranteed but I got my second interview and moved far along in the process fairly quick. And again, if you don't remember, they weren't happy with me working toward that position. I emailed both of the ones looking forward to working with me. Maybe that'll carry through for me. I doubt it, but it never hurts to keep hope alive.

Where am I now? Well, my confidence is pretty shaken up.I mean, if someone like me who lives to do the right thing and work hard....and in the end he has failing grades, getting fired from his job, and still struggling with his friendships with his friends.....I've been in a bad way about this.I'm not giving up despite wanting to, because the year has only just begun.

What do I do next? I'm taking some me-time. I'm going to do my homework, I'm going to sleep in, I'm going to game, I'm going to color, get my creativity back, and live. I'll get back into work intime. Don't worry about that.

But I need to take some time and evaluate myself and my life.

I'll probably be taking coloring commissions in a week or so.Still doing them $5 per character once I get back in the swing of things.

Thanks everyone, much love.

Well I see no issue with you getting your mojo back! Your an awesome person and an awesome artist! Did you ever think about starting a patreon? That could easily replace that crummy job with you doing the thing you love most... your art (I’m assuming)! I’ve seen people pull in a grand a month doing that. At least it can take off the strain or the amount of hours on your next job if you choose to! Hope all is well.

Nah, sadly most of the art up there ain't mine. And I don't get enough views on what I show from other really talented artists, I can't even crack a thousand views. x3 I just do a couple of colorings here and there, that's all. I doubt I'd getmuch on the site. But, thanks you are really sweet.

That's really rough... I know what you're going through dear... though it seems to me that that the silver lining in the cloud is that you get to recharge your batteries now

It's bullshit really, and the worst part is that it's totally relatable. There's always that one employer that's always out for you, despite you doing your damnedest to get the job done.

Welp. That sucks. What did they have you sign? Was it something that basically waved your right to go after unemployment with them? Most places I know you don't sign anything you just leave. Have you thought about having their reasoning investigated through the company's legal department?

Past all of that crap, you up for games this afternoon?

I feel there's some kind of loop about there,
usually, petty things like this in business is like an exit move,
however stupidly plain it is

the field of business requires guile and cleverness to get things done
and most likely that firing you is not because of ineptitude
but more of due to the company's hidden plans for something else

if you have legitimate misunderstanding (and they refuse to elaborate), or believe they are canning you for no real reason, take them to court. at worst, you will get a small separation pay, at best, you get the choice of returning or leaving with a large separation pay
