My favorite videogames

by
for people's curiosity I decided to share my favorite video games, cause I'm much bigger on those than I am in art

it's REALLY hard to list them by 'top #' so I'm gonna go by genre, since I have played them since I was like 2 or 3 years old and my childhood took place in a fantastic age of gaming (90s) and have played a ton of games over the years...

my first game ever: Super Mario Bros 3. I've played and beat this so many times I think I've memorized every single level and can play them in my head... well except for those few that I usually skip, like 6-9. I beat the game before I was even in kindergarten

if you want any further explanation on why each game is my favorite, feel free, I can talk at length!! missing genres mean I don't have a favorite

here's the list:

Standard Platformer: Super Mario 64
Action Platformer: Rocket Knight Adventures
Adventure: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
"Metroidvania": Ori and the Blind Forest
"Roguelike": Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky
Turn-Based Strategy: Heroes of Might and Magic II
Tactical Strategy: Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Real-Time Strategy: Starcraft: Brood War
RPG: Undertale
MMORPG: Dungeon Fighter Online
Puzzle: Tetrisphere
Racing: Mario Kart 64
Fighting: Super Smash Bros. Melee / Marvel vs. Capcom / Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter
Beat-em-up: God Hand
Hack n' Slash: Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
Rhythm: Crypt of the Necrodancer
First-Person Shooter: Halo 3
Third-Person Shooter: Vanquish
Multiplayer Online Battle Arena: Heroes of the Storm

There are a few interesting picks on here, but the one that I'm most perplexed by is Tetrisphere. I think I played it all of one time when it first came out, and don't even remember if it was particularly good. I might have to look at it again. Personally, for that genre, it'd be a toss-up between Tetris Attack and Wario's Woods.

Good job picking the best Smash Brothers game, by the way.

I have played tetris attack (and also pokemon puzzle league harhar) and it's pretty fun, but I can't say I've had as good a time with it as tetrisphere

tetrisphere is surprisingly fun to play, and probably helped to increase my reaction time in general for games, honestly! not to mention it has a fantastic soundtrack... I also used to play it with my mom, we had fun

I suppose I enjoy not just the quick reaction planning aspect of it but also the general audiovisual experience

puzzles generally don't have the actiony goodness I crave, but that game rather does it for me, and of course tetris attack and pokemon puzzle league were great for that too

Crypt of the Necrodancer is so weird for me, like I love that game, but I hate playing it lol

Okay, I've got to ask. Why Heroes of Might and Magic II over III?

The series changed radically between III and IV, so I can understand not picking IV, V, or VI, but picking II over III is unusual.

Unless of course you played them on a console, and I don't think III got any console releases.

my experience with strategy games is very limited

I mainly picked it out because I've spent a lot of time on it in childhood and a recent revisit; I haven't played any others in the series

Ah, I see. Well, if you like HoMM II, give III a shot sometime! It's very similar, but 'more'.

Cool selection.
I liked Super Mario 3 but didn't manage to beat it as kid. ^^

Yes! videogames! Games give me life! Interesting list of faves you have there. I haven't played Vanquish or Revengeance, but I heard that they're both spectacular. Also, Undertale. My god, I think we can all agree that there's no game like that masterpiece. I'm surprised by the choice of Halo 3. In my opinion, there's are plenty of shooters that are more interesting. Story-wise, I mean.

I'm not big on story since I pretty much grew up without games with story, but in any case, I've spent countless hours on halo 3 multiplayer and I'd still play it if I had the opportunity

vanquish is on steam now and is pretty cheap and includes the console DLC, so I would recommend, have played it a ton

I'm very big on story and very rarely into multiplayer. So I prefer single-player focused games like Mass Effect, or Skyrim. The latter of which I'm currently addicted to right now XD. ever tried Skyrim?

I've had skyrim for a long time but I've never gotten around to playing it

Really? Dude that game is addictive like you wouldn't believe. It has a gigantic, sprawling fantasy world with endless things to explore and do. I recommend it if you're into fantasy. If not, there is an online multiplayer game i love that i can also recommend. Dead aby Daylight. Heard of that?

Dead By Daylight is an asymmetrical online multiplayer game that was very clearly inspired by slasher horror films. It involves 5 online players. One player is in the role of a slasher trying to hunt down the 4 other players, who are in the roles of survivors trying to escape alive. Including DLC, there's up to 11 killers you can select to play as, each with their own different special ability, and murder weapon of choice. 4 of them are famous movie slashers, the rest are original characters. Being a killer is loads of fun!

afraid I'm much more focused on single player experiences, occasionally cooperative multiplayer, not so much competitive multiplayer

Whoops, sorry. Was misled by the Halo 3 thing. Do you like exploration of an open world, or action games that have more immediate gratification?

actually I do enjoy halo online craziness despite what I said, I'm just very picky about such things, I've spent thousands of mindless hours on halo games most likely...

there's very few "open world" games that I've liked just because it gets repetitive and/or tiresome to travel, and generally "open world" is just an excuse to make traversable maps bigger without adding more to it

I grew up on games from the NES era so I'm accustomed to condensed games with linear or semi-linear natures, the more important thing is that it's fun to control and fun to run through such games

I grew up with Snes games myself, and Sega Genesis. Super Mario World, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the past, Super Castlevania 4, and Sonic the hedgehog. Classics.
