Monster Hunter

Well I don't think I'll be buying a console just to play Monster Hunter World, but looking at it got me wanting to try one or some of the other games. Any recommendations? I've played a little of the original on PS2 many years ago, but I found it rather difficult. Are they all that hard? Could have just been my weapon choice. Also seemed as if you'd need a guide to find many of the materials I needed. I'd prefer to play one that I can get into without having to look at a guide too much.

monster hunter world is much simpler then the normal monster hunter games. in the old games yeah you needed a guide because they don't tell you where monster parts or materials are or how to get them so youd need a guide for it. tri ultimate was fun and 4 ultimate was fun to but monster hunter world is really fun and challenging with a lot of different weapons to choose from.

I'm one who doesn't need a large selection of weapon choices and customization, and in a lot of cases I find less is more. Tri is a name that's come up a few times before.

Ok the first game, NO, no no no, the first game while classic is completely terrible with controls. My recommandation is maybe start with Tri or Three Ultimate if ya got a 3DS or Wii-U or go with 4 and Generations on 3DS

The games constantly get better every generation, imrpoving controls and adding quality of life. World is just the best out of everything. 3 Does have the problem of shitty underwater combat but I can admit I'm a bit nostalgic for it...then I remember that fucking Plesioth and its hipcheck that could hit you clear across the map (exergation but it's hitbox does suck)

Those are my recommandations, but you can't go wrong with finding a monster hunter game and playing it, though if you go for three, Ultimate is the better choice as it adds more features, the ability to download DLC missions (for free to boot, all games in monster hunter that has net contection still, has it) and it adds the G Rank Missions.

At the moment I have no way of taking my 3DS online, and I hear underwater combat and I'm not too thrilled about that idea. Thinking 4 then.

Well actually is there any major difference between 4 and generations?

4 and Generation is around the same generation, think how Diamond and Pearl and HeartGold and Soul Silver are same generation

4 is good on its own, introducing more vertical gameplay like climbing while Generation is like a Best of when ti comes to monsters and hunters, revisiting old locations within the series. It also has different hunting styles to change up combat. My suggestion one or the other or get both

I also recommand monster hunter Stories, its a pokemon like RPG spin off, I found it very enjoyable

ah okay. Thanks. 4 sounds like the one to go for since old locations wouldn't mean much to a new player

So I finally started playing Monster Hunter 4 after buying it a month ago, and I'm having lots of fun with it so far. I do have one question though. Is there a way to get the names of the monsters you're fighting? I get quests to kill a specific type, and then I have to kill pretty much everything until my quest counter ticks up one because I don't know what's what. Fucking love the palicos

Try the Wiki, Monster Hunter World on the other hand doesn't have that problem as it has an ingame guide.

Really the wiki is your best bet, also online guides, I recommand Gaijin Hunter's series as he does very good guides on weaponry and some quests and such.

Happy hunting ^_^

Tri is a 50/50 the game was solid but underwater combat was ass

4 and gen are great, both are great, Gen is sort of a love letter to the franchise having a lot of all the past games, though adding the "style" system that brought mixed feelings. "brave" style kinda broke the game.
For a none Jap player 4U is likely the better option, this is since it includes G ranks, the top level of the game basicly, while there was never a western release of the G rank version of gen
