3D modeling of Cherry

So for the past two weeks now I've been trying to work on a model that will be ported to SFM, because I really want to make an usable model from A to Z and be able to animate it. But thanks to my great incompetence, i seem to run into walls whenever i start the project and end up scrapping it entirely to begin anew (main reason is poor mesh planning/building), which obviously kind of takes a toll on my motivation to pursue this path. I'm not giving up yet though.

Any resources i can use to make some actual progress? (I use blender and tried Sculptris)

there are plenty of 3D artists here that do Sonic characters and stuff, you could try talking to them

No doubt about that! The thing is that I don't know any of them.

would you like a link to a couple of them?

That's always helpful, though I doubt i'll go ahead and approach them out of the blue.

compliment their art and ask them what they use

I've been doing 3D modeling for almost 10 years now. I feel ya. It ain't easy doing 3D modeling.

But if you want t know 3D you could go onto You Tube to learn some stuff.

Also important tip with 3D modeling.

Always, always ALWAYS!!! use refrences. Model sheet you've made, pics you found, always use them.

I've mostly worked on 3D by modeling static objects on 3DSmax. So i do know some of the 3D pipeline, but i've never actually modeled a full character. I did use a reference (my own that i've drawn for this) but it's mainly "mesh theory" that I lack. Like, when to actually think about splitting rows of edges, ect.

Yeah that can be hard. Thats why I do mine on Zbrush,

these models were done in zbrush, then I did re-topology after sculpting them. Then I finally load it in 3Dsmax with textures.

Oh okay. I don't own Zbrush, I just have Sculptris.

That's usually my  process in a  nutshell.
But heres a tutorial in blender to help you.

I did use that one, but i haven't been able to make any sort of significant, satisfactory progress (mainly because the face structure is way different so it's hard to tell what to do..)

Believe me, it can be tricky, but  there is a fuck ton of tutorials out there if you need help getting the mesh down.

Aren't all those mainly SFM artists? They all seem to use KabalMystic's models and stuff.

well you said you wanted to work on something that will be ported to SFM and as far as using models, I'm sure they can help you with other things your having issues with

Oh sure, but for now it's mainly the model-making that's being an issue. When come the time to port it to SFM i'll be sure to take a look though, thanks
