Five Days In and All Fucked Up

Five days in and 2018 has done been an absolute pile of shit. Since the 1st there has been an endless succession of frozen water pipes, a small house fire, fortunately contained before it did much damage, and now my computer has decided it's time to die. I've got stuff backed up to a portable hard drive, but some significant files appear to be missing, most significantly a lot of my writing. I'll have to take a better look around when I'm not pissed off, and a little pissed to boot, but at this point I'm just about ready to start breaking things myself. Or maybe just sit down and cry.

So fuck you, 2018. Fuck you very much. You were supposed to be better than this.

Thanks. I may have better luck when I'm not in such a pissy mood to be honest. But I'm really sorry to hear your year has gotten off to such a rough start, too. I really hope things will straighten out for you soon and that the rest of the year will treat you better!

I suppose so. The temperatures this week have been right down around absolute freeze-your-tits-off. But we haven't had any snow or ice storms so I suppose I should count myself lucky. Heh, and it was using a heat gun on the pipes that caused the fire. Well, that's probably an exaggeration. A bit of insulation caught fire. But it filled the house with smoke and a wretched stink that lasted for days.

As for the stories, my portable hard-drive is supposed to back things up every time my computer goes idle for more than five minutes. And it has done so for pretty much everything. I may find them yet. But thanks!

*hugs tight* I'm so sorry, bun. :( I'm sure I'm late to the game, but leaving water running at a constant trickle at each faucet can help to avoid frozen pipes.

Unfortunately, that would mean a soon emptied cistern. My house isn't hooked up to the city water supply and I'm not even sure it comes out this far. Otherwise, that wouldn't be a bad idea.

I don't wanna play the one-up game, but being a handyman I found a customer that might be having an even worse start to the year. The water pipes ruptured due to an extreme cold snap because the city didn't cut them off when they were supposed to, resulting in the basement flooding with four feet of water before it was discovered, which resulted in the furnace being fried, and the water heater being drowned.

Yipes! At least mine didn't burst. That sounds like a horrible mess and I feel really bad for that person. Though I will say that there are times I'm almost glad not to be on the city supply since at least there's only so much that could bleed out like that before it stopped here.

Aw, thank you so much! I think it's working already. This weekend has actually been pretty good, so I have reason to hope the rough stuff is over for now. I'm going to chalk everything up to the fading influence of 2017 and hope that as this year matures it will get better.

Well, I don't know about immune. I don't think anyone is immune to the allure of bunny tits. But maybe well disciplined enough to be a good girl. Mostly. Aw, but thank you. It's a sweet gesture, and I certainly feel luckier already!
