A few artists I know of who do adoptable offer small discounts off their commissions if they get the adoptable they won/bought off of them. It usually gives incentive for them to want them drawn more. Just a thought.

They don't get as much attention as I would like to due to money restraints and partially their low popularity with my watchers. I know that's probably a silly thing to worry about but I feel like its wasted money/effort when an image doesn't get that many favs or comments.

But if you're looking for excuses to draw frogs you're more than welcome to draw them and my other two, that weren't adopts from you, all you like so long it's in the relative realm of what the character would do.

While little Emma and her big sister / guarding Chloe haven't had anything drawn or written of them as of yet, I do finally have a setting, family, and general idea what I plan on having go along with them~

So certainly not forgotten, just been rolling in my head for some time~

I dont remember if I ended up getting any characters from you, I KNOW I got one from delicious before his original name change to whatever he changed it to prior to going back, (rebecca) but I dont know that any of the other characters I got were from you, although I CAN say I have not enough money to get art of them to date (plan to but need more funds and a better job first) but yea....dunno *shrugs*

This is the reason I'm not too crazy about the whole "adoptables" idea. If I ever put the time and effort into creating a completely unique character for someone, I'll want to at least share the rights to the character in case I want to draw it again; especially if it's just sold to a random user who may never do anything with it. Otherwise it's just wasted potential I think.

Personally, I think if you feel like drawing a previously adopted character, I would just do it. I don't think it's greedy or hypocritical.
If any owner of one of your characters actually has the audacity to complain about copyright, you can say it's fan art and considered fair use.

While I get what you're trying to say here, I do think that that last part was worded rather poorly. Sure, you can go ahead and draw the character you just sold the rights to. But I do think that the artist should keep the wishes of the new owner in mind when it comes to preference regarding sfw or nsfw material.

If I were to buy an adoptable from an artist, I would be pleased if said artist drew something of my new character. But at the same time, I would take issue with an artist drawing a sfw character in an adult situation. There's also the problem of "if your drawing of my character without asking me falls under fair use, then what did I just pay for?"

Remember, when you pay for an adoptable, you're paying for the right of ownership. While this technically doesn't mean jack shit, I wouldn't consider it ethical to still go ahead and draw that character whenever you please without consulting the new owner first. If you, as the artist, loved that design so much, then you shouldn't have sold it to begin with.

True, but I'm assuming the artist already regrets selling the rights and wants to draw the character again anyway; possibly in a way the current "rights holder" wouldn't want. Should the artist restrict themselves because of some agreement made years ago?
I mean even if it's more "ethical" as you say, I think an artist's right to draw what they want should take precedence over an arbitrary agreement. Also, it doesn't need to be considered official. I'm sure most r34 on the internet isn't true to what the actual character was intended for.

Also, I'm mainly referring to characters who haven't been used much, if at all since being sold due to the owner not being active or otherwise. Some of these users might not even be contactable anymore to ask for permission. Should these characters just remain in some legal purgatory forever or can we just agree to break some agreements? I think the latter option is preferable.

I do agree though, its best to accept a sold character as the buyer's character now and respect that.
I don't want to see artists censor themselves just for copywriter reasons though; even if it was technically their fault. That kind of thing irks me.
