Won't be around...

... going on a roadtrip! It will likely have little to no cell coverage where we are going so it's likely I won't reply till I'm back. Will be back on the 5th.

I don't know where you're going but, enjoy yourself as much as is legally allowed.  LOL.

Golden Bay, it's at the top of the south island of New Zealand. Beautiful clear water, beaches and forests.

Sounds wonderful and I don't care for the beach.  But, I've always thought that New Zealand would be a wonderful country to visit.

I imagine it is, you don't really appreciate it when you grow up here. I didn't realise just how varied it is compared to the rest of the world.

That's true.  It's like local history.  We don't really investigate local history markers here because, well, we grew up here and it's just part of our general knowledge.  I visit the oldest continually lived in city in the USA every year, St. Augustine, FL.  I visit the sights and enjoy them.  The locals probably visit only rarely.  I was full grown before I visited the largest and most expensive British fort in North America, Fort Frederica on St. Simons Island, GA and I live less than 20 miles away from it.

Humm, yeah and the problem with it being 'general knowledge' is it's normally only a fraction of the story. You end up knowing more about other countries history over your own. It's kinda sad considering how many historical locations there are around.

Yeah.  That's true.  I consider myself quite knowledgeable in the history of the USA but I learn things every time I visit an area I'd never visited before.
