Turkey day, Anime NYC and Sapphire Shop is opening

Hello guys, kitty here. Just hoping you all had a wonderful thanksgiving with tons of family, friends, and food food food.I hope you're enjoying the full extent of the weekend as the christmas shopping season begins. So, please be careful >.< (even though i know many of you fellow otaku's prefer to do your shopping online.) But, as one season opens, another one closes. That's right, im talking about the convention season. This year was wild with cons, cons, and more cons. I experienced the good, the bad, and the ugly, both as a vendor and attendee. Even though I've been doing conventions for the past 14 years, you always experience new things. For all of you that know me, Anime NYC was the last convention for me for this season. I will be taking a three month hiatus from con hopping in order to rest and make more productive content that you guys love and enjoy. Now, on with the review.......

Anime NYC was AMAZING!!! This particular convention has a lot to offer while still having room for potential to grow into something wonderful. The size of the con was relatively big for a small time convention. Unlike a more mainstream convention such as NYCC, there was plenty of room to take pictures and record video of merch, cosplayers.Overall, it was very well constructed. The panels, dealer's room, and arcade area were all on the same floor of the Javits Center, keeping everything convenient without impeding on each other. The main events were on the first floor and the artist alley was on the third. Holy Hera, the artist alley was ENORMOUS! It was to the point where you could find anything and everything that an otaku might desire. From fan art to very elaborate original pieces, it was packed from wall to wall, with just enough room to see (when the whole floor wasn't packed for last minute shoppers). There was also a small area for cosplay photoshoots and dance downstairs.

Overall, it was tons of fun and I'm looking forward to going back next year. The only flaw I found was the lack of variety in the panels and in the dealer's room.It was okay as it was, but I think they could have included more of what would appear at other conventions, or even more of what existed at its predecessor. Maybe its due to me being spoiled by previous years of bigger conventions such as NYCC, Connecticon, and Anime Boston. However the panels at Anime NYC were more cosplay based. I have a deep love for cosplay and the various subjects brought up during the panels, but I feel that
this con should have more to offer besides. They could have more panels about Japanese culture, language, discussions about workshops for drawing, comics, prop-making,
entering into the anime or comic business, etc. Like I said, still hope to return to this convention next year.
