So Sonic Forces...  That was a game.

It's not a bad game.  It's kind of sad that for a Sonic game we need to measure it by how "Not as bad," it is compared to other games.  I mean, what else can be said.  Sonic Mania kind of spoiled me on the Switch and proved that just listening to the fans can lead to a good game.

I mean, I really like the idea of Sonic Forces but like most things it just has too much wasted potential.  I think the most disappointing part for me is that there was a lot of story avenues that could of been explored.  Sonic being locked up for 6 months should of had some kind of impact on his character but it doesn't.  It's the same problem I had with the second Sly Cooper game where a lot of things were happening for the sake of the plot and convenience.  Still, the best part was probably the character creator.

Everyone has been sharing them, but mine is so plain compared to everyone elses so I'm not going to post it here.  I'm going to try and go for a complitionist on here though, the levels have me enthralled enough to try since it never felt like I was dying ALL THE TIME from problems with the game.  So what did you all think?  I nowhere near as good as Sonic Generations, but nowhere near as bad as Sonic 06'.  It's just Duke Nukem Forever level of average.

Your take is right. Too much that they could've done with it but didn't for whatever reasons.

It's a good-looking game, and I've had fun with the avatar maker, but the gameplay doesn't grab me like some older Sonic games does and it's just too kid-friendly

I liked the concept of story where Eggman wins and takes over the world, but the setting couldn't match with the idea. The part where they mentioned Sonic being tortured for 6 months made me cringe a little. Sonic Team could never make a sonic game as dark as the story wants to be.

The game play made me want to stay away from 2-d Sonic stages for a little while. The music of some stages were pretty good. The stages were nice to look at, but made me want to do so much more than just look at them in the background. I was worried that the game would play itself more than I would, but I surprised to see quick-time events on the cinematic parts.
The game wasn't hard and the levels are quick enough for me to play and trophy hunt for.

I'd give the game a 5.5/10

I think they played it safe, they gave us a budget title sonic game that gave us a customizable character instead of some bizzare gimmick. Something that tested the waters without risking too much time and money development wise. If this serves as a springboard for them to refine the series off of, I think they might do some really great stuff down the line.

The music was stellar, the controls only took a slight bit to get used to, and stages still permit a lightning fast pathway are a more unconventional path.

Getting red ring stars, number coins, or moon coins is a trial and I found myself swearing at the game at times.

However, as the story continued, the stages, notably "modern sonic" seems to get less fleshed out and not as tuned. Especially with the final battle vs Infinite being a retread of Metal Sonic, it's very apparent there was a rushing in the development period.

FYI: I played on hard mode.

One thing I noticed is that anyone who played mania hated this game. I played this game, didn't play mania, and found myself loving it. I think part of it is expecting the mania physics in the 2d segments and not having it and then getting mad that "the game doesn't control right".

But honestly, it's not a bad game. I wouldn't even call it average, just a bit of lost potential in the final crunch of the game. That said, the Avatar stages were fantastic.
