Sonic Forces is terrible

What a huge disappointment. The Boost gameplay by Sonic Team was somehow run into the ground. It's not even fun, there's no exploration involved with the boosting. If anybody thought Unleashed/Colors/Generations was "Boost-to-win", take a look at this pile :/  I adored Unleashed/Colors Sonic gameplay, never found it Boost-to-win myself, but this game really makes you feel it.

Every modern Sonic level is a straight path and boosting, with half of that being out of your control entirely. The level design is the laziest, most terribly boring I've ever seen in a Sonic game. Even Sonic 06 had more interesting levels than this, though I dont think the game is as bad as that.

The only redeeming thing about Forces are the custom characters. Their stages are the only ones I found enjoyable and fun. Creating my own character was alright too, though the lack of hair for the most part is a huge letdown for fan characters/OCs.

I beat the game just over 3 hours. 30 main stages, a bunch of those being bosses. Green Hill and Chemical Plant were brought back. Why? Classic Sonic didn't need to be there. his levels were trash. Empty, boring and uninspired levels for him, especially after the brilliant level design of Sonic Mania.

I hate to say this :/ I really do. I've always loved Sonic but my god, they really dropped the ball here. I hope Sega doesn't give up on Sonic entirely after this, but they really need to put Sonic in the hands of a fresh new dev that cares about Sonic. Sonic Team just plain.. sucks.

What Really? I didn't play it so far, I throught Generation was just alright and just needed improvements, how did they screw that up?

Sonic Generations didn't try to have a legit story and setting, it was just a fun anniversary game with no development hurdles.

Forces went through a lot of drastic changes, and adding Mania Sonic was basically an after-thought, which is why he has maybe 4 or 5 levels in a 30-level game.

Avatar / Buddy plays a lot like Boom Sonic - some people think that it was at one point going to be Sonic and Boom Sonic instead of Sonic, Avatar, and Mania Sonic.

So basically it is a clusterfuck of many, many ideas put together but none of them received the necessary fine tuning?

That's most post-Adventure Sonic games, yeah.

It really felt like in GEnerations that they had an idea on how to make a decent game, some fun levels, some idea candy, I mean it is still not the best game ever but at least one you do not regret buying, I still do not believe it I thought they learned their lesson -_-

So did I. :/ I thought the same thing you did. Generations came out wonderful! They did such a great job and I figured they finally found a formula that works and gets good reviews/feedback. I thought with this game they'll refine that gameplay more and make it epic but it came out extremely lazy in terms of level design. v.v

It is really sad, it seems they can't get it together anymore -_-

what i don't like 'bout the costume avatar is no height and so options, but i can say the music in the game is good, (though i can see some of the songs been to cheesy for others...)

I liked the music, that's one thing Sonic never gets wrong.

You sound surprised? I have come to assume every modern Sonic game is shit. That way if it turns out good it's a pleasant surprise.

I admit I was surprised. I loved Day stages in Unleashed and Generations(Despite being short) was awesome. But this was just horridly lazy on Sonic Team's part. :/

I've only gotten the first few levels so far. I find it fun, but I dislike that the FMV's on Steam are buugy as shit

Yeah the gameplay is functional and not broken, but you'll realize that every level ends right as it starts to get going, the levels are all straight lines with NO exploration/interaction/branching paths, and the controls feel insanely stiff! Generations/Unleashed felt so great and fast! This is just.. lame.

Really? I've found branching paths up and down in the first few levels

in the simplest form ya there's some ^^; but nothing like Generations design. I should clarify that classic Sonic has more branching paths but those levels are very bland.

I honestly need to play Generations. WOuld you rate Forces low then, compared to others, or just not as good as the good ones?

Both low compared to the others and not as good as the good ones. And just as a Sonic game or game in general, so sub-par. ^^; they just didn't try with anything level design wise.

I'll just have to see what I feel after more gameplay

I gave up playing sonic games when they abandoned the core game play aspect, which was: visually appealing, super fast game play with enough control to keep it a game, not an interactive cartoon movie. I think if they combined the speed and control of the special stage from sonic 3D blast for sega saturn, with modern graphics and some good exploration possibilities, they'd have a decent game but from what I've heard they don't' seem to be able to get all the right ingredients all in one game. Like when they made a great speed based level setup for that one sonic game but then slammed you into a wall when the next level was sonic the slow werewolf hog. ugh.

While it's hard to see a number of negative reactions so soon after release, I'm still expecting to receive it this holiday season to give it a go myself.  Just like all the others....

Could be the veteran collector in me, I suppose.

OwO I don't know about you. But I find the game enjoyable. I like the story they going with and it a Major plus to add character creation. The Gameplay seem fine not bad or good. But decent. It a game where you play and have some fun while enjoying the cut screen at the same time. I would sometime go back to the other stages and replay them with a different character and I gotten love the music always. To me the game seem in between good or bad. I didn't have any problem with the red rings if I spot one I grab it. But trust me you will die a few times till you adapt to the game. I can't count how many times I run into a robot in high speed forgetting to boost or when the air bots blast me with their laser because I was not in a rush. To me personally I find this game really fun. aka I beat the game and playing it on the switch just to show my love for the Nintendo and Sega.

I found multiple paths to explore, at least one of which I could only reach by boosting.  After three hours I was still exploring levels halfway through the game, unlocking stuff with higher and higher scores, and finding new things in levels.  This is because I'm a completionist, not a speed runner, and I try not to finish games asap.  I also found levels where I didn't dare just boost non-stop because it was certain death to do so, or because it would make me miss power-ups, shortcuts, red rings and alternate paths cleverly placed.  The wispon weapons opened even more paths for me, and I then spent time exploring those just to see where they went and for the challenge.  I found the special levels challenging, requiring timing in jumping and it pushed me to develop skill.  I found the levels courful and full of detail, and am looking to buy the album when it's released on ITunes.  On top of that, I'm still only halfway through, and still exploring and shooting for high scores!  I have run across glitches, two of them, but I also know there are very few games in existence without something leftover that shouldn't be there.  I haven't run into either of those glitches a second time, either, so they seem only locked to very specific sections of levels.  There's going to be an update sometime soon, and that may help with said glitches.  I am a little unhappy there are a few too many short auto play areas.  There are also a few areas hard to get through on the first go, until you figure out the timing of a trap/enemy/area, and you'll probably die on the first go in said spots.  But I'm enjoying this game enough that it doesn't stop me from having my fun.
