Google Update

The other day I had google randomly deleting files left and right.

so UPDATE:

So I had blown a breaker earlier causing the computer to abruptly shut down. when it came back up, google saw random files all through my backup as 'not supposed to be there' and started randomly deleting.

...its a mess. I manage to get large amount back from google trash recovery. but there's a large amount of files still missing and I can't tell which ones are missing. too many duplicates mixed in with the missing ones.

basically i have to look at each commissioner's file folder and recall if any important images are missing.

:(

And i'm talking hundreds randomly edited.

So now i get to sift through to make sure I didn't lose any WIP commissions T_T

Why google...

This kind of issue is why I use offline hard drives as my back ups... I hate online back ups as they usually reek havoc like that or lock down and say pay X amount to gain access to your files again after so long, and if you say no... they delete them from online and you can't recover them even if you pay.

this reminds me of servers. i say servers because a forum based rp site i used to frequent got killed a few years ago when they missed a payment and they auto deleted EVERYTHING. it killed the community and its never been the same since.

google is a dick though lol

Is why I disable any services, scheduled tasks, and boot startups related to google. Always update with an 'offline' or 'standalone' installer with the latest version, never let google update its self, itll usually fuck up everything I have so a MANUAL upgrade is usually needed. You may need an uninstall and reinstall. Hope that helps.

Any backup system that deletes local files is shiiiit. "Syncing" should never result in fewer copies of data.

Good luck.

Journal may be two days old now, but that is still a miserable thing to happen. However it may not been entirely abrupt shutdown, but also a possible recent Google error too.

Google Docs Is Randomly Flagging Files for Violating Its Terms of Service - and locking people out of their docs.

This was an error on Googles end, a faulty update to Drive that causes error based ToS violation on files which would "remove" said files, not even trash would have them. If possible to recover said files I do not know.

blackitten, it could be Windows losing the files. You may want to run command prompt as admin and input the command 'chkdsk c: /f' to fix any broken filesystem links... it may also recover some of the files if they're in there but not indexed.
