Dear [insert pejorative for discriminated minority here]:
This faggot is here to tell you some truths that have obviously slipped your mind.
How quickly you forget that unjust laws like the ones currently in place all around the world barring homosexuality used to apply for you.
How quickly you demonize millions of people who helped you fight for the right to marry, vote, have families, and be protected under the law when they ask for your help.
How quickly your attitude changes when the social crosshair is no longer trained directly on you.
How quickly and easily you spout hateful words, when you remember all too well what those words felt like when they were directed at you.
How quickly you forget that people's institutionalized and government sanctioned hate of you kept you up at night, wondering if the world would ever accept you for who you are.
You people spouting your hate anywhere you can, spreading the disease of your closed mind in a competition to deny as many people happiness as possible, you are the problem. And it doesn't matter how much you hate me. It doesn't matter what you try to do to grind me down or destroy my sense of self. It doesn't matter how hard you push against me to change who I am or rewrite my destiny.
It doesn't matter. Because I'm better than you. Because at the end of the day, the love that burns inside of me is so much stronger, more valuable and empowering, more sacred, more precious than anything that can ever come from that dark, hateful, festering blackness inside of you.
Fight it, if it'll make you happy, because you've only started crushing us down in the past 20 years. We have centuries of fighting for the right to be who we are. We will you smother you in our experience; we will sweep over your hateful doctrines, religions, and laws with love; we will outlast you in our tenacity to be free.
Fight it, if you think that you actually have what it takes to crush the human spirit of millions of people.
Fight it, if you truly think that you can change everyone's mind and turn each and every loving soul on this planet into one as broken and tainted as yours.
Fight it. I dare you.
Because I know reason and compassion will win. I know we will win.
Tout your right to free speech as much as you want, but hate is hate, regardless of whom it's directed at.
Addendum: Prop8 doesn't even apply to me. I'm not in California. I'm not even in the United States. This is just something I feel very passionately about.
