It's so cool to finally find a LGBT-friendly writing group in my area. This might not seem like a big deal to some of you, but around here's it'a a rare gem indeed!
They're actually really good at giving honest and useful critiques, too, which is even rarer. I've been kind of cheating by converting some of my furry work to human characters before taking them in. Fantasy is a hard pill for most to swallow even with human characters. But it's not too hard to switch things back and I'm thrilled to have found some people who aren't shy about telling me that this piece or that is in serious need of revision.
The only downside is having to drive 40 miles round trip for it but, hell, it gets me out of the house. It's also handy because it means I have to make sure I produce new content every week, which keeps me from slacking off. I kind of need a little boost to light a fire under my lazy ass now and then, because I'm a terrible procrastinator.
I don't really have a good way to end this. So *hugs* to all of you who bother to read this mess. And I'd buy you all a shot of whisky if I could. If only because my writing group spent twenty minutes discussing when and why "whisky" is distinct from "whiskey" and had way too much fun doing so.
