Was Sonic the Hedgehog supposed to be dating the real life Madonna?

This is something that's crossed my mind on more than one occasion but I've never thought to get anyone else's opinion on this until now.
For those not in the know, back when Sega were originally designing the concept for Sonic the Hedgehog they were planning to have Sonic live in the real world (Presumably somewhere in the San Francisco bay area as it's always been hinted that the Japanese version of Sonic, Tails and Dr. Eggman reside there), give him a human girlfriend named Madonna and have him be part of a popular rock band.

All of this was scrapped mid development so it's a side to Sonic that no one ever got to see outside of a few Japanese exclusive manga but I really can't help but wonder if the Madonna Sonic was supposed to be dating really WAS Madonna.

I mean when you think about it, Sonic's whole character is basically an embodiment of everything that was popular in America during the 80's and 90's. His design takes inspiration from Mickey Mouse, Felix the Cat and even some small hints of Bimbo the Dog (A cartoon dog from the 1930's who dated Betty Boop).
His persona is supposed to be a combination of Michael Jackson, Bill Clinton and Santa Claus of all things and his favorite food before Chili Dogs were Cheeseburgers, Soda, Fries and Milkshakes. (Basically American fast food).

Even his whole slogan back in the 90's was 'The Blue dude with the 'tude'. Probably taking cues from Bart Simpson's 'Don't have a Cow' and 'Eat my shorts' catchphrases that made him a superstar back in the early 90's.

Either way, he was created to appeal directly to American youths, steal the spotlight away from Nintendo and be an embodiment of 90's American pop culture. But it really begs the question that's never really been asked. Was Sonic supposed to be dating the real life Madonna?

I mean Sega of Japan were pretty crazy back then when it came to developing game ideas and marketing strategies, and in a world before the internet was widely adapted the cultural understandings between Japanese and American media couldn't be any further apart from each other. So do you think Sega of Japan actually were planning to go forward with this without even considering how Americans, hell Madonna herself would react?

I'm curious if I'm the only one who's ever wonder this out loud before?

Clearly he would have swept her off her feet, giving her no chance to reply!
Kinda like the Wizard of Speed and Time, only blue-er and spikier.
