Good News and Not So Good News

Well, I've got some good news and some not so good news. First, the good news. My mom has returned from her stay in the hospital. She's doing all right except now she seems to be walking a lot slower. But, she's up and about and that's good to me. Second, yesterday, my dermatologist called me and told me that a biopsy performed on a suspicious growth on the back of my hand is cancer. I call this not so good news rather than bad news because skin cancer is one of the least deadly forms of cancer, especially if it's caught relatively early and I believe we did it with this. Six months ago, the last time I went to my dermatologist, the growth wasn't on my hand. In fact, it wasn't there two months ago so I believe I caught it in time. On Tuesday, I'm going to have the cancer removed which is supposed to be relatively quick, painless and scarless. I'll let everyone know what happens when I return from the dermatologist. Oh, and thanks for any and all prayers for my mother's quick healing. They worked.

My hand should be fine.  I found the problem a couple of months ago and had a biopsy done earlier this month (a few days before Hurricane Irma struck my home).  The procedure I mentioned is called the Mohs Procedure.  It's minimally invasive and leaves a very small scar.

My mom is doing fine.  She seems to be feeling even better today than she did yesterday when she got home from the hospital.  I'm not going to let her do any housework until her doctor says she can.  This including cooking dinner for me.  But, she should be all right in a few weeks.

Glad you caught it at least! Let's hope that's the end of the matter. :-)

Thank you.  Yes, it should be the end of it.  When I went to the dermatologist about my "problem", I was informed it was basal squamous cell cancer.  This is a localized non-malignant cancer that, at worst, will become an unsightly bump.  As for my mother, we still don't know what caused her to fall, although I'm leaning toward a small stroke.  I think that because she doesn't remember anything about the fall, plus, when the hospital did an MRI, they found blood in her skull.  Fortunately, the bleeding stopped rather quickly so she's all right.
