Friday Question Time?

Another Friday night with just me and the cat curled up asleep on my writing desk. And my notebook. Her revenge for not petting her earlier, I suspect.

Being unable to work, and having nobody to talk to, I thought I'd open things up for questions again. Naughty or nice, anything goes, and private messages are welcome if you'd rather.

In the meantime, I might be working on character designs for some new characters to add to my roster. Well, not really new so much as not-yet-drawn in most cases. But I'm excited.

Well, here goes....
After using Microsoft products for 28 years, I've switched over to Mac.

Are you going to yell at me?

Nope. When it comes to the whole fight over Macs vs PCs, I couldn't care less. I've used both and they both have their ups and downs. As does anything, really. I say go for whatever system you want, and anyone who gives you crap over it isn't worth listening to.

I've always had the attitude "They're just tools."

I asked grace, but now I pose this here:

What type of wine do you prefer?  Or Beer?  Or mixed drink?

Any favorite "toy"?  Be it naughty or nice...

Favorite position to end festivities in?

If you could have one object that vibrated on command at any intensity and was controlled by your mind, what object might that be?  (not just naughty uses, any use)

Do any of your characters have any aspects that you find despicable or dislike?  I'm always curious if artists and writers are able to create something they detest, but continue to bring it to life.

In regards to alcohol:
Wine - For white wine, I tend to prefer a nice chardonnay while for red I tend to prefer merlot. I'm pretty good with anything as long as it isn't too sweet, though. I tried Moscato once out of curiosity and it was like drinking syrup.
Beer - I can't say I really like it.
Mixed drinks - Rum and coke is about as adventurous as I've gotten. Like Grace, I normally like to drink hard liquor neat. Scotch is my favorite, and it seems a shame to adulterate it with anything.

Toys:
I don't really own any, I'm afraid. There aren't any shops that sell such things local to me, and Bad Dragon toys are out of my budget.

"Festivities":
I'll have to agree with Grace that cuddling is a nice way to finish things. It's a pity that, in my experience at least, that's pretty rare.

Vibration:
I'd actually like to apply that to the strings of my mandolin. Then maybe I could get the hang of that damned tremolo! I sometimes think it might be nice to be applied to a car seat, too. Something approaching a nice massage would be handy on long drives.

Characters:
Oh yeah. I try to make my characters as close to real people as I can. Or can be applied to fictional characters. So flaws and bad habits are an important part of that. Barring antagonists, who are deliberately designed to be objectionable:
-Deirdre: She is bossy and argumentative, prone to picking fights with people just to have something to do. She was a terrible mother when her daughter was young, preferring her career as a soldier to raising the girl. She can also be rather childish for someone her age. She means well, and is learning, slowly but surely, but hasn't broken all her bad habits yet.

-Ciara: Deirdre's daughter. She can be a bit arrogant sometimes, being the daughter of a king and the most famous general of her era. She is impulsive, hot-headed and temperamental, and she is prone to dishing out disproportionate retribution to those who hurt her friends or family. She tries to make up for it by being a better monarch that the majority of her ancestors, and through her unending quest to make life better for everyone, regardless of social status.

Feargus: Deirdre's father, Ciara's grandfather. He's a scoundrel and a bit of a con artist at times. He has spent his entire life as a wandering tinker and odd-job fox, and tends to take the view that you should take advantage of people before they take advantage of you. If he has any redeeming qualities it is his unwavering devotion to his wife and family and his willingness to sacrifice everything to help them.

I think it's important for a writer to be able to write for characters who have viewpoints and attitudes that are radically different than their own, and to do their best to make those characters as well rounded and believable as anyone else. Even antagonists and villains are more interesting if you can believe they're real people and not just strawmen.

Thanks so much for the questions!

You can swallow anything you want!

I've never actually had the pleasure. But I think I'd probably go with the swallow option. My boy deserves it.
