Sonic Boom Review for 09/02/2017

*Sighs.*

Yeah, needless to say, I'm in one of those rare miserable moods, given what's happened to me the last few weeks, but... Can't let my fans down...

Well, this episode of Sonic Boom was... was... Well, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great, either. That's all I can say.

I'll probably explain it more during the review. So, with that said, here's my review on this episode of Sonic Boom, which aired on September 2nd, 2017.

"Chain Letter"

The episode starts in Eggman's lair as he is involved... in an intense game of pong... until he gets a message notification from his FriendSpace account. Basically it was a chain letter saying that if he doesn't share this message to 3 friends, he'd be cursed with bad luck forever. (Oh, brother...) Eggman was about to do that... until he realized he had no friends on FriendSpace. XD After ordering Orbot and Cubot to Friend him, Eggman still needed a 3rd to send the chain letter. This leads Eggman to a desperate attempt, by begging every villager to be his Friend. (Wow, that is pathetic.) He then figures he'd have to earn their trust to get them to add him to his Friends list. From helping Red Herron (from that "Inn Sanity" episode) move to trying to "connect" with the rabbit girl from the spa ("Sticks' and Amy's Excellent Staycation" episode) to helping the old monkey cross the street... with zero results. XD Left with no alternative, Eggman decides to ask Sonic, as he interrupts a soccer game between Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy (with an admittingly funny Peanuts reference). When Sonic unsurprisingly refuses, Eggman runs away crying. Tails then points out that it might not be such a bad idea Friending Eggman on FriendSpace as it would be a great way to keep an eye on him. Back at Eggman's lair, Eggman was still depressed at the fact that no one wants to be his Friend and wonders if he should change his attitude. Then, those thoughts were tossed aside as he sees Sonic's Friend request. (Oy...) Soon, at Sonic's Shack, Sonic is seen napping on his hammock until he gets a FriendSpace notification on his wrist communicator. (Ha, Sonic's version of a smartwatch, I guess. :D ) And it's that blasted chain letter, to which Sonic immediately deleted. He goes back to his nap... until he's being bothered by notifications coming from Eggman's FriendSpace account! The next day, at Meh Burger, Sonic tells his friends about Eggman's annoying over-sharing habit. Tails suggests ignoring them the same way Meh Burger ignores their customer complaint forms. XD Sonic then tells them that Eggman's a social media menace. During their conversation just now, he sent him a GIF of a dancing penguin, a check-in at Wolf Sidekick's open mic, and a poorly written article complaining about Mayor Fink's private EMail server. (Okay, that last one went over my head.) Later, at the Village Square, we see T.W. Barker, no doubt trying to pass his latest con game on the villagers. Sonic puts a stop to this as Barker sics his hench-bears to attack Sonic. Sonic could have easily dealt with them... if he wasn't distracted by the continuous notifications of Eggman's FriendSpace. (Been there before. I actually sent a tweet to WWE's Xavier Woods with the pic of Team Sonic as The New Day, replying to the fact he was doing a Sonic Mania stream at the time. Next thing I know, during work, my phone kept beeping me with Twitter notifications. Not only did he retweet that to his followers, but a crazy amout of people retweeted and favorited it. Proud moment for me, but dang, did it cause a bit of a distraction when Cortana kept asking to read my Twitter notifications. XD ) Sonic finally had enough and un-friended Eggman! Meanwhile, as Eggman was about to send Sonic a reminder for "Talk like a pirate" day, he soon finds that not only did Sonic un-friend him, but blocked him, as well. Eggman then decides to create his own social media site and not let Sonic in. (Wow, his plans for revenge are so creative and not so petty at all... #Sarcasm) So, after deciding what their site needs (Basically a carbon copy of Twitter, only with winking instead of liking), Eggman returns to the village and tells the rabbit girl about his new social media site, Scrambler. After hearing how new it was, she soon spread the word to dang near everybody! The next day, all the villagers are seen wandering about with their phones near their faces. (Hmm... I'm detecting an attempt at real life commentary...) Sonic sees that even Amy & Knuckles are obsessed with this new site. Sonic tries to sign up for this, just in case if it's some kind of evil scheme cooked up by Eggman... only to be denied immediately. Sonic shrugs it off and tries to move on... but when he sees his friends are too obsessed with this Scrambler app-- shoot, the entire village was obsessed with it. They even held a Scrambler-only party night at Meh Burger! Sonic has had enough. The next day, Sonic went to Eggman's lair to get to the bottom of this... only to see Eggman as depressed as when this whole mess started. Sonic was confused, since everyone in the village was his Friend. Eggman then said that they were only digital friends, which weren't the same, as he tried asking for a cup of sugar on Scrambler, but getting zero responses, only "winks." Sonic then says that if he lets him join Scrambler, he'll comment on everything he posts. Eggman agrees and lets Sonic sign up for it... Only for Eggman to un-friend him minutes later. He then decides to unfriend everyone else and remove the Scrambler app altogether. (Uh... *Sighs* My head hurts...) Apparently, Eggman would rather have real life enemies than fake digital friends.

So, yeah... this episode was really... uh... dumb... I mean, almost reaching levels of Teen Titans Go! dumb. I mean, you would think, with everyone but Sonic (and Sticks, for obvious reasons) obsessed with that app of his, Eggman would have used it to create a mind controlled army against Sonic or something. But, then again, that could probably end up being a copy of the "Midnight Hour" episode, minus the creepy Grim Reaper robot. Still, though, while it had some funny moments, this episode... it was just... meh.

Well, the next one is actually going to feature Vector the Crocodile and have the plot (more or less) mirror the same plot in an early Sonic Boom comic, so that shows promise of a fun and funny one. :)

This episode has yet to be placed on cable's on demand service and isn't available ANYWHERE online.  I can more easily find episodes of shows from premium channels than this thing.  Why is the network fighting tooth and nail to keep this specific show from being posted anywhere?

Who knows...

Well, they're going to repeat this episode after the new one featuring Vector today.
