Computer Trouble

It's been a long time since I put up a journal here on InkBunny. This place is still secondary to me, getting very little exclusive content compared to the likes of FurAffinity.

Anyway, on Monday my computer froze up and displayed a bunch of garbage visuals while I was at the laundromat. I wound up getting it to turn back on after unplugging it for a couple hours, then on Tuesday it did the same thing to me right after the end of a YouTube video. On Wednesday it did so in the middle of another video and I couldn't get it to turn on at all yesterday - the most likely issues are overheating and virus infection, in that order, so I'm trying to take measures to counteract both right now.

If I completely stop putting garbage on here and my favorites list stops growing...that's probably why. Dead computer is a possiblity, and one I hope not to have to deal with.

Is it a laptop? Could well be overheating having caused the graphics chip to desolder itself or something. There have been a lot which suffered that kind of failure over the years.

You could try opening it up and cleaning out any dust you can get at. There should be maintenance manual of some kind on the manufacturer's website, or else check around for advice. But it might also be that it's just broken. :-/

It's pretty similar to a laptop - it's a desktop computer where the monitor is build in, but an external keyboard still has to be plugged into it. I've had it about as long as I had my previous computer (a laptop, which shorted out suddenly one day and turned out the hard drive was intact and the motherboard was what got fried; my go-to computer help guy managed to save a large number of files from it, but none from the folders I actually cared about like my game development files, MSPaint drawings, and downloaded porn library)

I'm planning on buying a can of compressed air tomorrow (or technically today, I guess) and seeing if that cleaning out will help.

More likely than just a bit of dust that causes overheating is that the thermal compound between cpu and heatpipe and gpu and heatpipe dried, if it is replaced it will likely fix it. For the needed repair/ maintenace the worst case would be having to disassemble it completely to get access to the cooling systems/ heatpipe and fans.
