You Can Unlock Any Door, If You Only Have the Key...

Today, after so many years, those words echoed through my mind as I heard them spoken again... :_(

I got a copy of the BluRay version on The Secret of NIMH for $10 at Sam's Club today, and reacquainted myself with Mrs. (F)(B)risby and her family, Auntie Shrew, Jeremy, and the Rats of NIMH. even though I haven't seen it in at least 20 years, it was like I never forgotten it!

Back in 1998, I got to goto ConFurence 9 in Orange, CA. One sight nearly brought me to tears - Nicodemas!!! It was Nicodemas, I swear to god it was him! Glowing eyes, warty paws and all!!! I felt like I saw my grampa again after..... Well, you know.

For all you young whiper-snappers put there who has not seen The Secret of NIMH, you must! This was the defining movie for Don Bluth after he quit Disney, which set him up for many other pivotal furry movies, like An American Tale and The Land Before Time.

PS. A fun fact I just discovered - Wil Wheaton (Wesley Crusher) was Martin Brisby, the oldest son.

Neat! Don't know how I missed this one. I notice Scatman Crothers is one of the voice actors. I found a clip of him and Phil Harris reminiscing about Aristocats and Junglebook. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsaL5CJZhV4

Aristocats is another Don Bluth film I need to get a copy of.

Go watch any film he worked on after he left Disney, and you'll see. ;)

Thanks for the link but there is a reason I have yet to watch it yet. While ive known it's on youtube the video quality is pretty bad and I prefer to watch stuff on my TV and when your blowing up a 240p video to a screen thats 1080p with pre-existing compression artifacting from youtube as is. Lets just say the results aren't pretty. Shame it's not on netflix or i'd just rent it.

Ive seen it but it's been a long long time. I wanna grab the blu-ray someday. Nice price too. BJ's also gets a lot of good prices on blu-rays. Almost half if not more of my blu-ray collection came from there!

Just never be fooled into purchasing or even seeing the so called sequel.
The first story is gold on its own.

Even to this day with the plethora of high def digital movies, NIMH holds as one of my favorite movies of all time. It is definitely one of my gateways into the furry world.

Oh, that movie is epic! I love Don Bluth and Disney animation from that period. My understanding is that Disney fired him because of how dark The Black Cauldron was. (I'm old enough to have seen that in the theater as a kid. Awesome and terrifying at the same time.) I still remember my favorite bit of dialogue from NIMH after many years;

Jenner: "I've learned one thing. Take what you can, when you can!
Justin: "Then you've...learned...nothing!

I'll have to get it on Blu-ray if I ever can find it for $10. X3 It's a good movie. Did they update it much? Remaster it or whatever? What are the special features?

Wil Wheaton was a voice, eh? I heard that guy was.. not very nice off camera. ^_^; Ah well.

Well, the audio is great! I can clearly understand what everyone was saying, and before I couldn't hear a bunch of lines clearly.

Video quality.... *sighs* boy, I was hoping they would clean it up more than just brighten the colors. I guess this is the curse of putting analog tape on a digital format. :-P

Ah, yeah, they probably didn't have much of a budget for it really. =x Any special features? =3

Interview with Don Bluth and Gary Goldman, audio commentary by both, and the original trailer.
