An Open Letter To FurAffinity - No More Hate

by
FurAffinity, it is your turn to stand against hate.

Update your policies. Allow call-out journals for the purpose of calling out these fascists. We have been silent about them for too long. They have clung, hatefully, to our tails for too long. We have feared their accusations of 'being just like real nazis' for too long. They are modern nazis, and no more can we tolerate a culture, tolerate a community, that tolerates the intolerant. We will not be silenced any longer.

From this day forth, I will no longer respect any person who apologize, defend, or allow room for those that peddle hate. I do not accept any branding of censorship they would label upon me. There must be limits to the lies they peddle, even if they truly believe them to be real. Any ideology - political, religious of any kind, economic - that espouses the oppression of free people, that denigrates based on race, nationality, background, sex, gender identity, etc - must be ostracized. You all know that I am referring only to nazis, racists, the KKK, and their ilk. Do not allow yourself to be convinced that I am calling for suppressing freedom, or silencing legitimate viewpoints. You, yourself, know deep down that what these people call for is the explicit death and silencing of gays, jews, and more.

I am no longer convinced that the social shunning and silencing of these hateful bigots is no different than the silencing of a legitimate group of people. You know, I know, and they know that there is no true oppression in this act of silencing nazis. They depend on that grey area. It is their siphon into society. There is a difference, and we know there is a difference. It is time to stand up and draw that line.

Anyone that refuses, under any circumstance, to specifically and unequivocally denounce the alt-right and their apologists, the nazis, the confederate flag wavers, and the racists within our community, shall be considered an apologist and a sympathizer. There is no more excuse for this behavior.

We all know of inconsistent and questionable actions by our 'leadership' when removing call-out journals. How some are removed immediately, and those that defend alt-right viewpoints are suspiciously left to linger. Call-outs were banned to reduce drama, when petty furry squabbles could start flame wars. Today, we must take back our ability to police ourselves. We know the right thing to do. None of us want drama, even if we're convinced our neighbors - who are also us - feed on it. it is our problem and it is we who must deal with it, as Furries. This is not the responsibility of administrators to take care of for us. If we cannot be trusted to resolve issues peacefully, quietly, and avoid petty bickering, then we create the perfect atmosphere for Nazi furs to flourish.

Again, I extend my hand up to the FA administrator, and the administration of all furry websites. I extend my hand to every member of the furry community. We must all be free from the infiltration of bigotry into our fandom. We must call out questionable behavior. We must shine a light on unethical treatment. Be it members of our community, or members of staff, there is no more room in our lives for their sick, oppressive ideologies.

Any who stand in the way of exposing and repelling these fascists, shall themselves be exposed and repelled, until they can stand on the right side of history. Resist.

Maybe slightly not with you on callout journals. But otherwise, I'm all for it. Administration should take reports of Nazis more seriously.

The Paradox of Tolerance was first described in 1945 and states that a society that is truly tolerant without limit will eventually be destroyed as the intolerant take advantage of it. I can't believe that in 2017 we're arguing about whether or not Nazism is a bad thing...

On a positive note, at least we can take solace in the face that the largest Nazi rally in decades was only able to muster a few thousand people from across the country. They're vastly outnumbered by us, and they know it as well. This is their last-gasp chance at a resurgence thanks to internet recruiting.

Oooh! Nice. Rarely see other people reference the Paradox of Tolerance.

On Furaffinity, I had a callout journal intended to point out a fairly noxious transphobe (and generally fairly icky reactionary) pulled relatively quickly, while a much older one about a scammer lingered until I removed it in a show of good faith, so... yeah. FA is kinda awful about this.
