A creative artist speaks against SOPA/PIPA.

by
I am a writer. Many, if not most, furries are creative artists, both in visual, textual and aural media. My favourite site could easily be affected, since it's- if I recall correctly- operated outside the US. That's right- This can affect your nightly Inkbunny pleasures, along with many other things.

SOPA/PIPA is so broadly worded and in giving such expansive authority to certain individuals it favours, that it easily flies in the face of our own First Amendment.

If you, like myself, are an American citizen, and want to keep the Internet free from this very real threat of censorship, PLEASE sign any of the petitions against the SOPA/PIPA bills-- Below is the one I got from Democrats.com (as I'm a registered Democrat, and a self-described liberal), but regardless of your party affiliation, please consider signing!

Censorship is a blight- Stand up for everyone's rights.

Probably the most unamerican thing one can think of. *nod* (Yet so many clamour for it for years, not understanding WHY it's as unamerican as it is!)

And yes, I was thinking of you, amongst MANY others-- SOPA/PIPA is broad Internet censorship in the guise of anti-piracy, because it gives too much power over what you can say, not only on an overseas-based site (like IB, I think), but on American ones (for example, FA and SoFurry). It affects you as a DJ, since you sample and mashup, and put your works out there for everyone to hear.

This just isn't right.

It doesn't even economically make sense, since it would also cause loss of revenues, not just from retail, but from advertising, by blocking based on DNS/IP, which it provides.

That's why I said it affects us creative types, as well as the causual websurfer.

What's idiotic about SOPA is that the people discussing it can't use a keyboard and can die any day now from old age or overeating babies.

What's truly idiotic is our Congress critters can't be bothered to read the legislation they're either proposing, endorsing, or voting on-- The true power of the tyranny of lobbyists! :P

If this so called law is passed we as a society will no longer function properly, as we will be robbed of our true voice...our true outlet of expression and I think this is just completely wrong and down right foolish. Of all the big mistakes that governments worldwide have made, this one takes the cake. I am strongly against cencorship in any form it takes, and will keep supporting the fight against such rediculous attempts on telling us us just to exist, but not to live.

Hear, hear!!

I would love to live in the America that the Founding Fathers intended-- Our nation really has lost its idealistic ways... :(

Many countries like the good old US of A have lost their way too, but one things for certain, that people will never lose the hope that keeps them alive.

That is my hope.

(Maybe I think too much like ol' Ben Franklin- I don't know. ;) )

To think like a good patriot like Ben Franklin, is to be inspired and enlightened by such.  :)

Were it not for him, I'd be blind- I'm VERY dependent on his last invention, the bifocals. :)

But, yes.... :)

I've already contacted my senators and representatives. Seems like enough has been done (for now) to hold things off. They're apparently going to look at it again in February or something. =/ So can't stop now, just gotta keep truckin'.
