Video issues.

Okay, I was trying to record some video for a friend, but for some reason, whatever video I try to record takes up over 100 times more space than it should.

Don't believe me? http://dl.dropbox.com/u/48774856/Too%20big%21.avi <- This video is only 10 seconds long at 640x480x30Hz, but it's over 370 MB long and without sound! Even 10 seconds of 1920x1080 video would take up less space, so why is my camera eating up so much space for so little video?

Can anybody tell me why my video's taking up more space than it should? I need to be able to record a few minutes, but not if it comes to over 2GB per minute!

Sounds like it's saving uncompressed video instead of encoding it first. Whatever you're using to encode should be set to compress as it records so you don't have such massive files.

It has no such option to set. It only gives you a choice of resolution and frame rate. That's all it has.

You need recompresser the video ^^

I download the video and I compressed in 1mb:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/3fa5df

You need to download this program:

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=127611

Open the program and update the thing if is neccesary

Then open it and click on add, choose the video, in mode: 2-Pass, remark Lock size and put the MB you think is ok, Done & Start & wait for the compress ^^

That doesn't compress video in real time. If I had to record an hour's worth of footage it'd take up over 130 GB, 1/5 of my hard drive!

Well, I was using the test program my camera uses, but now I'm using Debut. Problem is, it's not free and it doesn't tell you how long you can use it. x.x

I'm using AVS4YOU Video Recorder to transfer VHS tapes x33 It's free, and encodes MPEG2 <333 http://www.avs4you.com/AVS-Video-Recorder.aspx works with any capture device, webcam, etc

btw, I saw this journal because I was curious and wrote the number manually in the address bar :P

Okies! ^^ I'll try that if Debut becomes unusable after a trial date or the features I need get crippled.
