You had it worse than me.
Mine was so gradual I can not pinpoint when I became diabetic, but only when I was diagnosed in 2002. Increasing lack of energy, excessive thirst, loss of apetite. Not even my favorite junk food appealed. Then I got nauseated at work and my superiors said i looked pale and sent me home early. Memory was a haze in some ways, and the doctor said I had diabetes. A week's stay at the hospital, and now I am on insulin shots, as I can't tolerate metformin. Not bad, and I understand how junkies manage injecting themselves.

I may have had symptons at least a year earlier, having leg cramps on a long hoof from Brooklyn to 42nd street in NYC. (I saw the towers fall, from my workstation window !). Insulin appears to prevent leg cramps (2 were so bad I was yelling and cursing, and I was left sore for a day !).

Sorry to make this a misery reunion.
