Once your eyes are open, you can never force them shut.

The last few days have been a bittersweet (well, maybe just bitter) revelation.  I never realized how hostile the members of FurAffinity were toward cub art until it was banned on the 24th.  Now I'm not even sure I'm comfortable around some of these individuals, who have stated in no uncertain terms that cub art is child porn and that they have no tolerance for it.  Can I be friends with people who think of me as a pedophile and a smut peddler?  I've taken these concerns to other babyfur artists, and their answer is usually "Well, you don't draw cub porn" (having not seen my InkBunny page or my now defunct alternate account on FA) or "Well, I never saw the artwork on your other site, so my opinion of you hasn't changed."  Why does that matter?  Just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean I haven't done it.  You can't wish that away any more than I can wish that you could see the error of your ways, or wish that the hysteria surrounding this issue would just go away.

I've tried to be more open and trusting with the other members of this community.  Now I realize that this was foolish, and that there was a reason I had been so guarded in the past.  If your friends will only accept you as they want you to be, rather than as you truly are, those friendships were built on lies and never really existed at all.

It's really sad, to be honest, that's why I walked away from FA. I can't stand the ignorant hostility that the members carry. That....yes we're furries. That makes us deviants. What I like and what they like are different likes but that doesn't make anybody better than anybody else, and these stupid arguments are as invalid as they are uncalled for. But logic and open minds are two things that furries, which are, typically, beings of high emotions, don't seem to use very well, which leads to stupid stuff like this.

At the end of the day, I think it was telling that it was the money, not the "morality", that got it cub pornography banned. Yes, some were a little harsh about it (though I think stress and poorly-chosen words contributed to that), but Dragoneer said that they'd considered a ban earlier in the year but relented when they found out it wouldn't actually put their users in danger.

I honestly can't blame FA for wanting a stable source of funding. It is their choice as to how they go about accomplishing that.

As for users . . . well, people are people. They always want their friends to match up with their vision of the world - because, after all, they're friends.

Well, AlertPay funds this site as well, which has me a little worried.  I've asked Starling twice for assurance that cub art would remain here, only to get stony silence both times.

They don't provide our payment processing anymore. Did you read the recent journal?

I highly doubt we are going to go down the road FA has chosen. There are other means of supporting a site like Inkbunny, especially given its size.

You should draw what you want to draw. Simply put - sure, some people can argue morality and be pious all day and night about cub art but the reality is it's a fantasy character in a fantasy situation. It isn't like this entire fandom isn't based on this principle - I'm sure most of those "other" people have vore/scat/bloodplay/death/other fetish tastes. It's hypocrisy at its finest! (Not to mention these people are going around looking for stuff they don't want to see.) People should just let others get their jollies from the art they want - reality probably isn't a better substitute in many cases.

All that being said - I'm going to keep enjoying what you draw. And on the off chance you draw something I don't like, I'll look forward to whatever you draw next.

I have witnessed more of the hostility versus having it inflicted on me. It's ridiculous. I feel that after all was said and done, everyone should have left it alone. What's done is done and no one should be hated or disliked for having a different like from someone else.

And now that I think about it, cub pron versus...oh say....Vore is no different: There's something deviant about it, it's disgusting irl, and people STILL get off to it. I say that a good majority of the community are hypocrites and that FA simply needed their financial stability. I cannot fault them for their actions...

I understand alertpay dropping FA, and I understand Dragoneer's decision. I have no problem with that (although the fact that apparently alertpay made them lose something in the thousands of dollars is a dubious claim and I'm gonna make a dick assumption, but I'm assuming that FA not having some sort of backup system in place is the reason why this happened and not alertpay stealing their money because they're evil or something).

The reaction, yeah. Christ almighty.

It really feels like they're closing the barn doors after the horses have escaped, though.  There's no guarantee that AlertPay will do business with them even after the cub purge, especially since Dragoneer is trying to ride the fence with numerous exceptions to the new policy.  I can understand their position, sure, but it seems like the damage has already been done.

These asinine laws, though.  They're 100% symbolism and political profiteering, with absolutely no regard for common sense or the consequences of legislating free expression.  Boy are you guys going to love Christopher Handley after he gets out of prison with six months of fuck in his ass and the boundless resentment that comes with it.

These laws are really, really ineffective at doing anything towards child abuse and are just ceremonial chest pumping. The thing is, we KNOW who hurts kids and the majority of them don't have goddamned amyrose getting it in the butt on their computer. No, the majority of folks who abuse kids are people in a position of power over them, and are usually someone extremely close to the family or the kid themselves. Wouldn't extending the statute of limitations on child abuse, creating a better safety network for kids who ARE abused, and changing the focus on 99.9999 percent of abuse prevention education from STRANGER DANGER to what is most likely to actually happen. Oh and the flaunting of HEH GIRLS CAN'T ABUSE BOYS THEY MUST LOVE IT culture should probably be changed. Shit like Law and Order SVU goes on and on making fun of teenage boys who say they were raped by women and everyone high fives but OH GOD IS THAT A DRAWING OF HUEY DEWEY AND LOUIE MAKING OUT CALL THE POLICE TEN THOUSAND YEARS IN JAIL. Which one of these is going to "cause" more child abuse: The nationally broadcast show seen by millions that brings in hoards of cash dollar money to media fatcats and actors that states boys who say they are being hurt should just shut up because they'll be made fun of and no one will believe them or the drawing on someone's computer? If you're prosecuting for one, you need to prosecute for the other. I don't think either should be banned, personally, but if we're talking about abstract media and child abuse prevention one is causing more active harm than the other. Oh, and anyone who goes on about how cub art is child porn and how much they hate pedophilia and child abuse but makes rape jokes? They need to shut the fuck up because they're doing more to perpetrate a culture of being ok with rape than any goddamned drawing ever has

(This is personal for me, so if any of that seemed dumbly ventish I apologize)

No, I agree with 99.9% of this.  Feel free to rant as much as you like!

You're right... sexual abuse is generally going to happen within a family, or at least in that inner ring of influence.  Kidnappings do happen, but as often as not the "amber alerts" you hear were triggered by parents abducting their children as a power play and a big fuck you to the estranged spouse.

Also, I am just a bit tired of Hollywood's two-faced exploitation of sex crimes.  Dick Wolf thinks he can titillate the audience with tales of sexual depravity while moralizing with a balding, overwrought crusader, but he can't have it both ways.  Oh wait, he CAN have it both ways, because the PROTECT Act makes a cleverly worded exemption for film and television studios.  Funny, I thought it was justice for all, not justice for people with deep pockets.

Yeah, and the thing is I distinctly remember watching all those films we were shown growing up about how we should avoid strangers is that they never talked about family stuff. Which is a big deal because when the thing happened to me, I remember thinking to myself "Well, this makes me feel bad but in the movies it was always a stranger, so this is probably ok and I should just go along with it". Which, christ.

Anyway long story short Dick wolf can suck my dick (dot com)
