I want to thank everyone who has read, fav’ed or commented on my stories. I didn’t start doing this to become well known, and didn’t expect furs would watch me. While my watchers are few, you are all greatly appreciated. I’ve said it before, but knowing my stories are entertaining you is what really makes the effort worthwhile. It’s been a fun ride so far and the things I’m learning in my writing course should make an even better future.
I had considered writing stories for years but had to fight against negative thoughts like:
Your nobody, why would anyone care about what you have to say?
You have no experience writing stories. You’re just some talentless hack with delusions of adequacy.
People love to tear others down and they’re especially cruel online. Why open ourselves up to that?
Over the last few years I have seen furdom lose some great artists & writers. It’s saddening to know that due to death or disappearance we might never enjoy more of their work. That made me think – at least they shared their inspirations, you’re a coward for keeping them locked away. I realized I was being foolish and had nothing to lose by sharing my stories. Worst case I would be ignored or unfairly criticized. And if I was then I could stop knowing that I had at least tried.
So I posted my first story back in June. Writing it was fun, I was proud of it (and still am), and thought it was a very touching tale. Well my fears were almost confirmed as “Relearning to Trust” got little notice. It crushed my enthusiasm and I almost gave up, but “Second Childhood” was finished and I wanted to share that first. That story got noticed and got the ball rolling, and now I’m glad I stuck it out.
So If you have something to share don’t be reluctant like I was. Take a chance and share with the fandom, you might be surprised at the result.
