SOPA & Protect IP: It Could Have Been Avoided, But We Laughed

Back in the 1990s there was a PSA called "Don't Copy That Floppy." It was a horrible thing, but it had a message. 20 years later, we laugh at it, but ignore the message. As a result, the US government is mulling SOPA and Protect IP. In essence, these pieces of legislation are the result of US ignoring the publishers' pleas. It's not the fault of the government, it is the fault of the people that this is being considered.

What's worse is that because other countries like Australia are slack about duplicating the heart of the internet infrastructure over in the USA that when those internet censorship rules go through, US laws will restrict the internet freedom for everyone not just US citizens.
