I guess XP really was shitty with dishing out memory. I now have Windows 7 64bit installed and it made a fucking massive difference in what SAI can handle. I haven't even added any new RAM to my PC yet!
Before: on a 5000x5000 canvas, I could only make 3 color filled layers before SAI went ape shit crazy.
and Now: on a 5000x5000 canvas, I can make 11 layers, and SAI doesn't error out at all, Windows merely starts knocking up the page file to use more memory!!! LOL!
Usually, 32bit apps have a limit of 2gb max RAM usage in Windows XP, even though (i think) the max addressable amount is like 4gb. Really shitty huh? So I'm running a 64bit OS now that dishes out more RAM to 32bit apps....hot dog! I don't know yet if it can go over 4gb because I don't yet have that much RAM, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did for some weird reason I have no clue about. So, by upgrading my OS, it quadrupled the amount of layers (and doubled the amount of RAM) that SAI can use.
A few things I knew would break broke :P But it's little stuff, like the icons on my Flip Finder script not showing up because the path names don't come back for windows .exe's but they do for nonwindows .exe's. On the bright side, I'll be forced to make programs that actually work on Windows 7 64bit OSes now ^.^ good for you, a hassle for me (at least initially) but I'll figure it out. Windows 7 seems a lot faster and better put together than XP. I just about choked to death looking at the size of the Windows folder though!! 10gb!!!! Just for an OS lol!!!! Damn, Bill's really covering his tail this time.
I was planning on streaming today but I spent a lotta time going over this crazy new OS and installing stuff, and fixing other stuff. I should be able to stream tomorrow uh..I mean later today though!
