WOW, why would anyone steal your fella and post as his own like this. Does this crap happen alot to others? How did you find out about it? I'd be mad if someone took my travis as their own like that.. Hope they take it down and tell the truth to others or might just tuck tail and hide now, lol We spend good money to others for commissions and do our own and this happens .

That's not art theft as he doesn't claim the works to be done by him. If at all, I'd say it's plain old character (concept) theft. That is a difference.

contact the admin of the places you find your art uses without permissions. Link back to your profiles here in inkbunny, dates and times art has been posted. And let them know you're filing a DMAC theft of copyright matieral. if they don't know what that is, then they don't deserve to have their website.

To one degree, I can sympathize, but I really don't think this constitutes art theft. He's not claiming the art was drawn by him, and while the character is clearly a ripoff of yours and he uses pics of your fursona to represent him, he's not specifically stealing your fursona either. It seems more to me like he just wanted a character to RP as and lacked the creativity to actually make one from scratch (and the fact that he has a profile on F-List for the character seems to be further evidence of this). Hell, I've used pictures of other characters for my own characters sometimes myself. It's not especially harming you as far as I know, so honestly I'd just let it go. If it bothers you that badly, then ask him not to use images of you to represent his character, and if he refuses to take them down, then you have some cause for action.

Ever notice I never say "Amy Stereo (c) me"? You know why? Well, because you cannot copyright a concept, character, name or likeness. But you CAN trademark them. (Most can't afford trademarks, and in most cases, have no use for trademark protection, as it's used in some act of commerce. Although I have heard mention of a possible free basic trademark protection under some limited means, I'm not familiar with it.) However, you can copyright an image- The artist usually is the automatic copyright holder of the image, of which the rights can be transferred, and basic copyright protection is free.

Wow. Once before I saw an art theft that stupid. Some Toronto furry needed an avatar for a certain Sudbury furry forum. She clipped the face from a picture that she thought looked like her fursonna. She chose a well-known fursonna image of a very famous Toronto furry artist, practically one of the first furry fans. And she was supposed to be a volunteer at a library, but didn't understand art-theft! The artist she ripped-off had to join the forum just to tell her she couldn't use his art without permission. (She's lucky he didn't go to the library where she volunteered and tell her in person and in public. It would not have been good for her career.)
