Commission ? Safe or not... A method to avoid being scammed ?

Hi guys !

Pfff, exams are comming next week for me and I need to draw a lot to leave the stress away ^^ !

I have a question !

Do you trust people to whom you ask commissions ? When they ask you to pay first and then you receive your pic ??

I don't trust them at all... Think about it ! It's not safe at all... It's easy to get scammed ! Completely.
In fact, it's really easy for the artist to "forget you" if he's really busy with other commish and life xD...
Some can even deny that they received your payment, and even if you show an "evidence of the payment", they still can say : Fake...

You're totally fucked, Yeah, that's THE WORLD...

SOOOOOOOOOOO

I tried to find the best method to prove to the client that he doesn't risk to be scammed when he asks me some commissions...

First, the client send a note to the artist describing what he's looking for ! With a lot of details and all, that's always easier that way. Of course, if there's some special charas in the request, he needs to give links too  (references)

Then, the artist starts a sketch.

Then, when the sketch is done, the artist shows the result to the client and if he's happy, here comes the serious buisness XD !

AT THIS MOMENT, if the client wants the artist to complete the pic (inking and colours), he has to pay him !!! Why ?

Because : You're totally sure that the artist won't scam you, cause a sketch takes some time to do ! And he proves you that he heard you ^^.

Plus, you can't blame him to be slow while drawing the sketch, cause you didn't pay him. He he he !

So what do you think ? NO MORE CHEATS with money x3 !

When there's trust, there's money : 3 !

well depends on how they are drawing, if it stream commission then i can pay when they are done since i am seeing them do it. If it's the normal way then pay half when sketch is done then the other half when it is fully done :3

But i prefer the streaming commission

We still have to remember that an artist would try anything to get a good reputation : ) ! So, scamming people won't bring new clients for him XD !

That's a good method too ^^ But streaming can be annoying for the artist, who is watched directly... Stressful o_o.

Can be but I like because it can stop mistakes so the artist wont have to redo the whole thing if it's wrong. Some artists do it for  fun like 0r0ch1 who uses the online radio to Howard Stern while taking commissions :3 . I also avoid artists who charge like 40-60 dollars  for a b&w drawing.

I've had very good luck with artists, actually. One scared me a bit by not responding for two weeks after being paid, but the misunderstanding was quickly resolved, and the art was spectacular.

I've only been burned by one artist, and I'm loathe to publish names. And for $25, it's is loss -- the work was going to be featured in a prominent furry publication, along with the story that I wrote.

Holy shit o_o ! That artist should burn into hell ! Greedy like that, I just can't believe there's such people like that... 25 $ are still 25 $, and it's still robbery. How did it end ?

I'm not sure if you'd call this an ending. His behavior became so strange that I thought it best simply to end contact with him. I have great sympathy for people who have the combination of artistic ability and mental health issues -- I'm a writer, depressive, and sometimes have attacks of really weird behavioral swings. However, I also keep in touch, put up warning flags when needed, and don't take on jobs that I can't fulfill. If I hit a patch rough enough, I'll refund every penny, usually with a few bucks extra. Then again, I'm rarely commissioned to write for anyone, so perhaps the comparison is moot.

I hope he's all right. Despite being angry with his behavior, I really hope that he, as a person, is okay. He went through three episodes of "cutting" during the short time that I knew him.

Well, Ishoka will do your drawing via stream will only send you the file AFTER you've paid. (Paypal) But if you want, you can do a down payment sort of thing

I would say it depends on the artists.  Relatively well known artists that do commissions regularly are unlikely to rip you off.

Totally, cause they need a good reputation due to the fact, they want to sell more pics x3 !
