So for the past while I've been playing Persona 4

And I absolutely have fallen in love with this game.  I can't tell you how much fun I've been having and how much inspiration I've gotten from it.  It's like chocolate and peanut better the way the jRPG aspects and the life/date sim mechanics come together.  While waiting on Aval0n to do certain things with BSC, I've been borrowing and working with some of the mechanics of Persona 4 to use in the Otter Twins game.  I've got something really cool going on here.

I don't want it to play exactly like Persona 4, I have my own idea for a story and event, but I am relying heavily on it.  I've borrowing some of the stats from the game as well as a couple of weather events, but I'm not right out copying the entire game.  I've kind of found myself obsessing a little over creating a elaborate looking GUI to use.  I could use a little help with the design, along with the outline of the game.  The twins game itself is not going to get supernatural in any way though.  I've thought about tacking on an RPG like adventure but that would be too much.

Programming Babysitting Cream is coming along at a brisk pace.  I wish I had more news on it at the moment but I don't.  What I've been able to do has been encouraging to Aval0n and has him inspired to draw some of the sprites I need.  Right now we're just focusing on new conversational sprites for Cream and the game, as well as continuing to edit the code and script to make sure it stays balanced.  I'll try to post a new update on things on Sunday.  Chat with you all later.  ^v^

Funfact. I also own Persona4, but there is actually a Persona4 with sort of alternative endings and/or happenings. Called Persona4 Golden. Its like with Fatal Frame 2 where the PS2 version is crap compared to the Xbox version (since in the PS2 version you have like 1!!! ending and in the xbox I believe like 2 or 3 endings) as in bad, good, happy.

I am playing the Golden version on my psv.  The floodplains are accessible along with a river bank, and some hidden dungeons too.  It's been a blast.  ^v^

I don't think an RPG like adventure would be too much, but then, I love RPG's. I can think of many ways that it could be done, even something like Final Fantasy Tactics A2 Grimoire of the Rift, where they get pulled into an alternate dimension. Faced with such trials and tribulations as that, romance would be bound to grow and develop and become all the stronger for it. I have so many ideas of what could be done, story-wise, with an RPG, or even with various different settings, from sci fi to fantasy. lol, I love writing.

Not played any of the persona games, so I will not get the influences from it. I do like that it is giving you new ideas and directions. Let me know if there is anything you think I can help with. =)

I don't know Persona 4, but I am glad you are enjoying yourself and getting some ideas for your own game.

Thank you for the update on BSC.
Glad to hear that you are making fast progress after the hiccup with the lost script files.

Keep up the good work.

You find some white miso, but the label says that its red miso.  Do you eat it?

Nonsensical solution: find red food coloring and dye it red.

I've never played a Persona game at all.  My friends hate me for that.

You begin to suspect that Cream's slit is a portal to the Pussy Dimension.  The amount of meat that can be contained within this slit is truly staggering.

Yeah, Persona 4 Golden is definitely a good source of highly entertaining applications of life/dating sim elements. It only seems natural, really, since when you stop to think about it these types of simulation games likely have their roots in the RPG genre anyway. Some people may complain, somewhat rightfully, that the pacing of the story with the mix of jRPG and sim is a bit off, but in the end the overall adventure comes together quite well, plus Golden adds a lot to flesh it out more. I think some of my favorite content usually comes from the expanded versions of the rereleased Persona games.

Anyway, after you finish with that, you could play Persona 3 FES for some further ideas. It leans a bit more toward its RPG aspect, but there's quite a few different yet similar elements to get inspiration from, just like Persona 4. Or, while I've personally have not yet played it or seen it played, Persona 3 Portable has a female protagonist option that would likely be nice for the different perspective. Given that the Otter Twins game is kinda meant to focus on the both of them initiating things, if memory serves, that sounds like it could be quite helpful. Regardless, P3 is another fun experience alongside P4, so the excuse of gaining inspiration from it is just a bonus really.

You should play Persona 3, I personally like it a bit more than 4, mainly because of how you use your persona though...yay guns :D

I left a comment on your last journal, but it was quite old by then and you might have missed it so i'll post it here again just to be sure.

renp'y has an auto-backup function that runs every time you force compile or run the game. Look in:
 C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\RenPy\backups

It might save you a bit of time.
