Supplemental material on the way!

Whew, I've been preaching a lot in my journals lately, so let's talk about something happy.

With Tai's Story completed, and only a single chapter remaining of Astray, I have started to compile the supplemental materials I promised long ago.

We're talking about a document containing character commentaries/analyses, bios, discussions of fighting styles/scenes, probably a hypothetical soundtrack, commentary on the story overall and, of course, that scene everyone hated me for leaving out in the last chapter. Bwahaha!

Believe it or not, this is going to be a big sodding project for what is basically just the "appendix" section of the novel.

It likely won't take too long though, because that was the point of it: it's a combination of the writer's notes, discussions with readers and so on, so forth. Much of it is written up already, just needs some tweaking. This isn't going to be very professional, but it's a thank you to those of you who encouraged me to finish this story.

I always wondered what the authors themselves think of the stories. Like if you hadn't written a chapter yet, did you ever wonder what was going to happen or could happen? I mean, it's your own story, but were you ever in suspense like we were when it comes to the plot, characters, etc.?

That's probably a part of why I dislike my writing ability so much (besides the fact it's awful, of course xD). I already know everything that's going to happen, so I'm more inclined toward writing things off as boring or predictable.

Usually I start a chapter with a good idea of what's going to happen, although that's just a goal to work towards. Precisely how things play out often just evolves naturally, as I think about how, say, Nick or Gary would react or behave in a situation/conversation, and since I try to play the scene out in my head as if it were a movie, the end result might "look" in my head very different from what I had planned.

Outside of empathizing with the characters though, I wouldn't say it gets suspenseful. I knew for example that ___ wasn't going to die, but the scene where the possibility was raised came about naturally - I didn't know from the start precisely how the others around him would react. I let my "actors" work that out for themselves; I'm just the director! :3

By all that is toast I hope Nick's note is a 'and he lived happily ever after' sort. >.>

Nice :)

Just finished Ch 7 of Tai. So sad :(. Your "mistake" added some comic relief at least, haha.

Oh, gawwd. In a scene that's not meant to have any. *faceplants*

Was that in the final novel version or in the independent chapter? If the latter, I gotta again stress how much better the full version is.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to go stab myself with a frying pan, just to prove it can be done.
