Tile Matching Game October 21st Alpha Test

by
Alpha Test! Alpha Test! Come on down and participate in my latest Alpha Test!

http://electricsquirrel.net/TileMatchingGame/AlphaTest...

The game still lacks polish but everything should be functional and working. If you find anything not functional and working, please tell me. The instructions are still a little confusing so here's a few tips. The idea is to make matching rows of at least three tiles by exchanging two tiles which are next to eachother. You can only exchange tiles if the exchange would make a row of three or more matching tiles.

When you make a row, those tiles are removed and new tiles fall from the top of the game area. When you match four tiles in a row, one of the tiles will remain with a red border. When this tile is removed from play it will also remove the eight tiles adjacent to it. When you match five tiles in a row, one of the tiles will remain with a yellow border. When this tile is removed from play, it will remove all tiles from play with the matching symbol.

If there are no possible moves remaining, your score is halved and a new set of tiles is generated. In the timed mode, the game is over after the timer runs out. You can add more time to the timer by making matches. There might be too much time from making matches to be challenging. I'll fix that in the polishing stage, for now please just make sure it's functional!

Thank you all for helping me test my game. I appreciate it!

So far, no problems. I played it to 11,000 just now. The sound effects were a little fuzzy, but better than none. I also liked the little notices that'd pop up sometimes.

About my only suggestion would be to put in a pause when the game runs out of moves. It happens rather suddenly.

That's a good suggestion, I think I'll do that.

BTW, I've been playing it quite a lot lately with nary a problem.

I do have a suggestion. Sometimes I'll be able to eliminate two rows/columns at once with a single move. That'd be neat if there was a bonus for that. Like, what if that made eight random tiles disappear from around the board? Make it twelve if you can manage to eliminate a three-tile row and a four-tile row with the same move, and sixteen tiles if you eliminate a two four-tile rows. How's that sound?

There actually is a bonus for clearing more tiles in a single move that goes up the more you do. I should probably make it clearer in-game.

I didn't mention, thanks again for keeping at it. For some reason you're the only one this time. Usually when I post an alpha test I get a half a dozen people commenting right away, but this time just you. So thanks!

<shrug> I know IB is pretty slow for comments compared to FA. :/

Also, I thought of another possible bonus. Maybe somehow you could get a thing where, like for the next five seconds, you could switch tiles that didn't match. Like, to manually create fives or fours, or just get rid of troublesome pieces.

Well, I posted it on FurAffinity and my LiveJournal too, and emailed it to three friends who don't use any of them. It's perculiar!

I don't think a bonus like that would work out, I've never seen a match-three game with an option like that. I think it would make it too easy, really. But thanks for thinking. <3

Exactly; you've never seen a bonus like that. It could make yours unique. I thought it'd be an interesting way of possibly preventing the player from running out of movies.

Running out of moves is the limiter, it gives you something to avoid by strategically choosing which tiles you'll switch and when, and it halves your score when it happens.

I get that, but it does really suck when you run out of moves and there's no real way to have prevented it.

There is a certain factor of luck, yeah. Originally I only had six types of tiles, but I added the orange one because it was too hard to fail.
